This week we are currently looking at shapes - both 2D shapes and 3D objects. As part of a "let's apply this to our life" moment, we decided to break the kids into small groups of two or three. We then put a digital camera in their hand and told them that they were to traverse the school and take 10 photos of shapes that they saw in our environment. Kids loved it.
What does it mean to have half a heart? In this worksheet it means your child has correctly drawn a line of symmetry! To complete this exercise your child will need to look at each shape, and then draw a line that will split the shape symmetrically in half. Your child will gain experience drawing lines of symmetry with this worksheet, as well as recognizing shapes that are and are not symmetrical.
"What is a Tetris Game?
Languages Online Tetris is played like other versions of the game. Different shaped blocks fall from the top of the screen. The blocks can be moved to the left or right and can be rotated to form completed rows. When a row is complete it dissappears from screen and points are added to your score. If rows are not completed they remain on screen. These unfinished rows build up, making it harder and harder to manouver the falling blocks into place. The game ends when the blocks build up to the top of the play space.
In this version of tetris the game pauses after every fourth block has fallen. To continue you must type in the correct word in response to a clue and click 'check'. If the answer is correct the game continues. If the answer is not correct then a 'bomb' falls through the game space removing any blocks in it's way.
Using the Tetris Game Maker you create the lanmguages task for students to complete. The clue can be either text, pictures or voice recordings, and you must also enter the correct answer word.
You can make games in any language. Any script (for example Arabic or Japanese) that can be typed on your computer can be used."
Today I had my 3rd class of Pre-Kindergarteners. I decided today I would approach the whole lesson as a series of questions. Rather than explain to the students what they would be doing (my first approach) or model what they would be doing (my second approach), I tried to encourage them to explore the tools and when I noticed students who were not using different colours I asked them: "Do you know how to change the colour of the lines?" If the answer was yes, I let them get on with it assuming they would change colour if they wanted to. If the answer was no I asked, "Do you want to know how to change the colour of the lines?", if the answer was no I let them continue in their own way, if the answer was yes I showed them how to do it. In the same way if I noticed students who were drawing lots of similar shapes I simply asked, "Do you know any other shapes?"
"Animaps extends the My Maps feature of Google Maps by letting you create maps with markers that move, images and text that pop up on cue, and lines and shapes that change over time.
When you send your Animap to friends it appears like a video - they can play, pause, slow and speed up the action!"

I did this years ago, after the George Bush/Iraq soldier one came out, looked great!
On September 6, Random House Children's Books and the online community Stardoll launched Mortal Kiss, a paranormal mystery that will be serialized online globally through the end of October.
