"How the game works
In the Languages Online Matching Game there are two columns. Each column contain six lines. To complete the game the player must drag a line between the matching pairs from each column. The Matching Game Maker allows you type in or record your own text or voice recordings in each column.
Some suggestions about the types of tasks you can make:
* Match a question and answer i.e. 'How old are you?' - 'I'm 12 years old'
* Match the begining and endings of a sentences. i.e. 'My favourite colour' - 'is blue.'
* As a translation task. Match a sentence in the LOTE with the English
* A listening exercise. Match a recording of a sentence with the text of that sentence.
* A comprehension task. Match a recording of a sentence or statement with a corresponding statement.
* Match a sound with a word. i.e. the sound of a dog matched with the word 'dog'.
* Complete the sequence. 'Monday, Tuesday" - "Wednesday" "

Today I had my 3rd class of Pre-Kindergarteners. I decided today I would approach the whole lesson as a series of questions. Rather than explain to the students what they would be doing (my first approach) or model what they would be doing (my second approach), I tried to encourage them to explore the tools and when I noticed students who were not using different colours I asked them: "Do you know how to change the colour of the lines?" If the answer was yes, I let them get on with it assuming they would change colour if they wanted to. If the answer was no I asked, "Do you want to know how to change the colour of the lines?", if the answer was no I let them continue in their own way, if the answer was yes I showed them how to do it. In the same way if I noticed students who were drawing lots of similar shapes I simply asked, "Do you know any other shapes?"
"Animaps extends the My Maps feature of Google Maps by letting you create maps with markers that move, images and text that pop up on cue, and lines and shapes that change over time.
When you send your Animap to friends it appears like a video - they can play, pause, slow and speed up the action!"
Technology has been with us since I've been a teacher. I started my career succumbing to the alluring aroma of the Gestetner (Ditto/Banda/spirit duplicator) machine and its purple stained sheet. Then the photocopier arrived and we didn't think it could get any better than making copies of a page for every child. The reality is that many teachers still rely heavily on the immediacy and simplicity of the photocopied black line master provided by someone else. It is far less confusing that all that technical mum jumbo introduced with the computer in the 90s.

Capzles is a relatively new free site that lets you create entertaining social photo story lines very easily. You could call them slideshows or photo stories, but really they are a whole level above the Flickr slideshows I was talking about last time.
If you're a coach, an athlete, a medical expert or simply someone who wants to observe, analyze and describe performance captured on a video, you should give Kinovea a try. Being just under 13MB's in file space, the abilities of the software can be well recognized. It primarily targets coaches, athletes and medical experts by supporting specific functions. Users can measure line length, speed and distance. Data can be exported to OpenOffice calc, Excel and simple text.
