5 Benefits for Creating a Classroom Environment for Student Blogs - 0 views

  •
"Benefits for creating a classroom environment for student blogging begin with establishing a foundation for their success. Why is this important? Integrating blogs transforms a classroom into a learning community where students become self-directed learners and thinkers. This in turn, causes students to use higher order thinking skills as they create and post entries in their blogs, along with commenting on other student's blogs."

Communities of practice: A model for ICT PD « hELPC! - 0 views

  •
From the articles I've been reading on teacher PD for ICT, there appears to be a clear message. * To achieve positive learning outcomes, PD is crucial. * PD must be continuous and address particular needs of individual teachers. * The traditional model for PD (one-off, one day courses) is bunk as it doesn't provide on-going support. * The focus on skills is a distraction from the main-game, pedagogy.

Collaborative storytelling involves a group where one writer starts the story and others keep on adding threads to it, and thus the story evolves. The imagination of the community gives a digital story a path one wouldn't have thought of at the start. If you are into digital storytelling ideas of any kind, try out these seven websites for a spot of collaborative writing."

What is the Technology Footprint in Your Classroom? - 0 views

  •
In contrast to the technology teachers' use in a classroom for their professional use, what is the technology (digital) footprint students' use in your classroom? When effectively integrated into teaching and student learning, technology has the power to transform a classroom into an influential learning community. Within this digital community students use technology tools to create collaborative and personal learning networks to support their learning. So what is the technology footprint? This is the digital toolbox containing offline and online technology tools and programs students select from as they complete assignments or projects. These digital tools may include and not limited to computers, iPod Touches, cell phones, online problem solving situations, blogs, podcasts, interactive websites, and other Web 2.0 tools. Google Templates for Student Projects - uTeach With Technology - 0 views

"Economics in the Elementary Classroom posted Sep 3, 2010 6:31 PM by lezlie harris [ updated Sep 3, 2010 6:50 PM ] I am so convinced that little children learn more by pretending and playing. I recently found a role-playing economics unit on the Scholastic site. During this unit, the teacher creates a community in the classroom where children apply for jobs, keep time sheets for those jobs, tally their wages, receive a pay check, cash it at the bank, and shop in the class store. Wow, how powerful is that! Think of all the concepts that can be taught within this unit! I can teach data, charts, graphs, money, persuasive writing, and many social studies standards. Since I am always trying to convert classroom activities into elearning activities, here is a Google Template for submitting job applications. My 2nd graders have loved submitting these applications. Their responses are so sweet! I may copy them to include in my parent conferences."
