Today, I had the privilege of teaching a high school staff about tech tools that I have used in my iPad filled classroom. Next year, the high school students will be using an iPad on a daily basis. The iPad will be theirs to use during the school year. This school did the correct thing by getting the iPads into the hands of the teachers well before they are asked to lead students with them. Teachers have had the iPads for about 2 months. The presentation that I used is below. Highlights are listed below the presentation.

"With the right eco-education, we can hope they will hit the ground running. A lot of schools and educational institutions are doing their bit by including the environment as part of the curriculum. Words like 'carbon footprint' and global warming' comes to them as easily as the name of any present-day rock star. That's cool. But who said that ecological or environmental education needs to be bookish or donnish? Thanks to online games, it can be brought out from textbooks into the fun world. Online environmental games games that teach kids about animals and conservation make the task interactive."

Middle school tech integration

Moodle options for the high school?

Start the money education at the dinner table or take the help of these interactive websites that impart financial literacy in a fun way."

The workshop was great and without a doubt all tools used during the workshop are Web 2.0. However teachers who attended the workshop are constantly reminded, what matters most is HOW teachers used Web 2.0 for teaching and learning but not WHAT Web 2.0 can do. Pedagogies, instructions and learning outcomes always come first.

In a world where there is such a fear of using Facebook in education even for high school, I wondered how she could succeed in using this as a tool with 1st graders????
