Adam, I'm so excited that you joined us at the High Calling! :) I work at a non-profit as a community liaison for refugee resettlement, and some of my best friends are ESL teachers for our recent arrivals. I am excited to read more about the things that you're passionate about, and look forward to interacting with you in the network.

I love the term "Socially Responsive" business. The non-profit I work for has a goal of treating ALL people with dignity and helping them become self-sufficient: "providing help, creating hope" is our tagline. I also really like your blog and am glad you've joined the High Calling network. I look forward to interacting with you and getting to know you better!

I so agree. Background checks should be essential for any kind of interaction with kids. I work with a non-profit, and at the least we have an interview with a volunteer--and make them fill out an application. Even if they're NOT working with children. Let's be "as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves." BTW, Welcome to the High Calling network; we're thrilled to have you and look forward to your insights, comments, and posts a you navigate the community!

That opinion underscores the lack of real leadership in the world today. I get irritated when people treat politicians as potential saviors-because we already have One. But I do wish that world leaders would step up in times like 9/11. Great thoughts! Thanks for sharing them, and for joining us at the High Calling network. We look forward to hearing more from you. Welcome!

This is such a well-written, evocative post. I love the detail. You really "took me there." I grew up in a non-liturgical tradition but as I mature (ahem...get older), I've begun to really appreciate the symbolism and ceremony which other denominations use in their worship. I think it's beautiful, and as a writer, I like the symbolism. So, thanks! And welcome to the High Calling! We're glad to have you aboard, and look forward to many more interactions.

I work with refugees, and I see God's heart for them every day...there are answers to prayers here in our non-profit offices you wouldn't believe (or maybe you would!). I am so glad you're writing about justice, and the way God sees the poor. Bless you! And welcome to the High Calling network. We're really glad to have you!
