"Lots of food for thought here. Jessica, we at THC are so glad you've joined the network. We love engaging in conversations about life, culture, work and family--and I know that we'll be blessed by the work you're doing, as in this very well-written post. Welcome! "

I so agree. Background checks should be essential for any kind of interaction with kids. I work with a non-profit, and at the least we have an interview with a volunteer--and make them fill out an application. Even if they're NOT working with children. Let's be "as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves." BTW, Welcome to the High Calling network; we're thrilled to have you and look forward to your insights, comments, and posts a you navigate the community!

Wow. I am so floored by the life you're leading. I work with refugees and know that those who died were refugees trying to escape persecution. Any how, I adore the title of your blog (such a neat picture, too) and I absolutely think your boys are going to grow up to be extraordinary men. Thanks for sharing a little of your life with us at The High Calling. I look forward to reading more!

Jen, I had a very close relationship with my maternal grandmother and still miss her a ton, even though it's been 13 years since she passed away. What a blessing to read your insightful post and see you give "permission" to your friend to grieve and not be okay. Sometimes I think we try to gloss over loss, instead of really feeling it. It makes us uncomfortable when people grieve...so thanks for this. I look forward to reading more of your work in the HCB network. :)

Dena Dyer said... What a fun post! Love your pics, too. Last week, I started a new job and forgot to bring a fork to eat my lunch with. Before I finally found a plastic fork in one of the drawers in the kitchen, I seriously considered eating my meatloaf with my fingers. :) Good to find you through High Calling Blogs--I look forward to reading more of your work! 9:47 PM

HF is my all-time favorite movie, and I love the Gena Rowlands character (who plays Sandra B.'s character's mom). She's such a great blend and balance of hope and realism. I hadn't thought of the movie as applicable to business concepts, but I guess it is. Thanks for the insights! BTW, welcome to High Calling Blogs. I hope you'll find it as inspirational and welcoming as I have.
