Deciding whether to create your own content or access existing content will depend on a variety of factors. You will want to consider whether this course is to be accessed by a small or large number of students, over what timescale (will revisions be necessary?), will it be within one programme or across several, one institution or shared amongst many, and is the content culturally specific or to be made available globally.

By comparing the student interactions in synchronous and asynchronous Computer-Mediated Communication systems, this paper scrutinizes the patterns of learner-learner interaction in a distance-learning environment. The study results showed the students spent more time in task-oriented interaction in asynchronous discussions than in synchronous mode.

This abstract written by an engineering professor at Cal Poly Engineering offers research and support for a new trend in education called, "the Inside-Out Classroom." The abstract describes how the inside out classroom is a win-win-win strategy for teaching with technology. Instructors create "chunks" of core content in a digital, lecture-capture format. These resources are then stored online for students. These are short videos that students watch before attending class sessions. Students study core content for a course online on their own, and then complete assignments during in-class sessions.

This article describes the increased use in the eLearning industry to HTML5 as an authoring tool. Moving away from things like Adobe Flash has allowed new opportunities and avenues of creation possibilities to content developers. HTML5 has wide support across many different browsers and LMS platforms which makes the use of HTML5 an easy transition/addition. HTML5 does, however, have difficulty working with older browsers such as IE8. Using authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate 9 and Articulate Storyline makes HTML5 easy to use.

Social-networking tools and learning analytics can help educators evaluate open content

Creative Commons licenses provide a flexible range of protections and freedoms for authors, artists, and educators. It provides educators with access to images, videos, music, and graphic all with less restrictive rights for using the material. For example, you go right from Creative Comments to Flickr images that you can use. The one caveat while searching for content, be careful not to use a different search term, because you will be searching in the regular libraries. When want search for a different, go back to Creative Commons and search from there.

As with other content on DailyTekk, this has an e-commerce focus, but some of these tools may have educational value too. (I'm thinking particularly of the grouping, filtering, and visualization tools.)

Through virtually flipping pages you can add .pdf's, url's, meme's, gifs, and other digital content to be stored in one virtual textbook. This would be great for manuals, textbooks, or any type of file sharing.
