Digital Musicking

This is an important perspective as parents begin to worry about their adolescent's academic courses (for good reason), but many are still trying to find ways to keep their kids engaged in music.

This is Jen Bailey's website. She blogs about relevant topics for the elementary general music teacher. She posts about content and resources that are very useful for K-5 music. She is a talented musician and teacher who identifies strongly with Music Learning Theory.

A compilation of play-along music recordings for students to use Boomwhackers or other similar instruments. Musication provides several free videos for elementary and middle school music students to learn to play along with the melody or chord structure of a given song. New videos are added often and students definitely enjoy playing along.

Musication has play-a-long videos for boomwhackers, hand bells, and simple percussion instruments. The videos are color coded and often have varying levels of difficulty. It provides a visual for melodic direction, durations, and harmony that helps students to see, hear, and experience music in a variety of ways.

Natasha Sigmund is a fabulous Music Learning Theory teacher, and she has created a lot of great resources on her TPT store. These are great to use as printables or with a projector/smart board. Her material is accessible and engaging for students of all ages.

DoodleChaos is a YouTube channel that features Line Rider videos, which are fun animations set to classical music. They are a great way to show melodic direction, duration, and expressive elements such as dynamics and tempo.

Dr. Jill Reese is an amazing musician and teacher, and she is also the creator of a very useful YouTube page with tons of ukulele play-a-long videos. She pairs music with chord symbols and indicates when each chord should be played in time with the music.

This is Jen Bailey's TPT store, and it is loaded with amazing material for Music Learning Theory teachers, as well as teachers who follow other methodologies. She has many resources for use with a projector or smart board, and other things that are printable. There are resources for assessment, audiation enhancement, movement, literature, holidays, rhythm games, notation resources, songs, recorder, ukulele, and so much more!

Andy Mullen's website is a gold mine for Music Learning Theory teachers. The Audiation Station provides video lessons to improve audiation tonally and rhythmically. He provides examples of each tonality with theoretical understanding as well as music videos. His explanations of MLT and audiation are straightforward and easy to understand.

From "The Improving Musician", this is a great resource for teachers to reference for each tonality. It provides convenient information on what to chords to use to harmonize while singing songs in all tonalities. It also shows the tonal sequence for each tonality for when you are establishing tonality whilst in verbal association.

This is my own website. I post resources for my students to utilize at home, and I also post things for me to access during instruction. Parents can find information about curriculum and events.

This is a web-based game for recorders. Students play recorder, and the sound initiates different actions in the game. It teaches breath control, rhythm, melody, fingerings, technique, and more. Students have a great time progressing through the different levels.

This website allows music educators to post and collaborate with other educators on their ideas and methods. The content focuses on teaching strategies, music technology programs, reading material for the integration of technology into the music classroom, and articles on continuing education.

This website was developed by music education and technology experts Dr. Joseph M. Pisano and Amy M. Burns. It includes blog posts from both educators, and discusses ideas for incorporating technology into elementary and secondary classrooms. Available music technology, software, and freeware resources are listed. Also included are examples of how this technology is used by children in their classrooms.

This website is a blog focus on the integration of technology in the music classroom. It appears to be a great resource to compliment the topics we have discussed in this course.

This podcast is hosted by the NAMM Foundation. It deals with a wide variety of topics in the music industry, many of which can be applied to the classroom and shared with students.

This blog discusses the most effective ways to implement technology into the music classroom, while addressing the concerns and misconceptions surrounding a 21st century curriculum.

This website is a great resource to brush up on how sound waves move and can be easily left for older students to read through. The site also offers ways to create music instruments and has discussion questions available.

Freddie the Frog has great resources if for K-3 students, especially if you have to books to teach with. The site offers games, theory practice and coloring pages that goes along with the book series.

Pinterest is a phenomenal place to get new ideas or games for music education. I generally search pinterest now before I look at google for new ways to teach music concepts. Pinterest is also where I have came across music teacher blogs that I follow. This site is also great for non music education things such as decorating your house and more.

Purpose of this resource: This is an excellent source of information, sheet music, lesson plans, and worksheets for the elementary music educator. Musical Content: This webpage contains composer biographies, sheet music downloads, worksheets, music theory games, music dictionaries, private teacher directories and more. The content is geared toward students in grades K-6. Other information: This webpage has excellent, free content, but some of the advertisements on the page may by inappropriate for display in class. Educators should find the resource they need and then print out hard copies for use in class.

This website has a lot of lesson plan ideas, theory worksheets, games, piano music and more all for free (mostly). I like to use this website if I want to find a new way to teach an old music concept.

A great resource for finding choral music. You can search or click on seasons, styles, composers, etc. This is a very useful site for anyone who teaches choir.

This wiki has thousands of choral works available for use, free of charge. Music can be accessed by season or composer, making locating songs easier.

ChoralWiki is like the wikipedia of choral music. This website has a lot of choral songs that either music teachers composed or even music from the past that was not included with copyright laws. The best part about this website is that all of the music is free!

This website contains a ton of songs for the elementary classroom, but you must pay a subscription. The website is very easy to maneuver and allows you to search songs by specific topics and/or musical concepts you are covering.
