Pandora radio offers free customized radio stations that play songs relating to certain genres or artists. Listening is essential for musical development and understanding.  Students can access everything from jazz and classical, to Latin and opera.  

NPR ( National Public Radio) is a media organization that finds artists, hold interviews of various artists while airing it on their podcast or creating live videos. The musicians are from all over the world, some are up and coming artists and some are already famous. Tiny Desk concerts also offer a contest for bands or artists to enter this competition which will help expose them. You can find NPR all over the place. They are on public radio stations from around the US, there are videos online and can be found at YouTube, as well as their podcasts that are accessible from any computer or phone.

Classics for Kids is a website featuring high quality weekly radio shows/podcasts about classical composers and their music. The service is provided by Cincinnati Public Radio. Excellent biographical information along with quality excerpts of composers' works are included. There is an extensive catalog of previous shows available for listening which are child friendly and is a great resource for music educators. The website also includes games and a section under the "For Grownups" tab for educators featuring music lesson plans.

The Radio Arts Foundation of St. Louis Classical music website offers live stream of their music. It is great to turn on during any down time in the class room.

The project radio aporee maps was started in 2006. it is a global soundmap dedicated to phonography, field recording (and related practices) and the art of listening. it connects sound recordings and places, in order to create a sonic cartography, open to the public as a collaborative project. It contains recordings from numerous urban, rural and natural environments, showing their audible complexity, as well as the different perceptions, practices and artistic perspectives of its many contributors, related to sound, public and private spaces, listening and sense of place.

From the Top is an NPR program that features kids who have achieved an extremely high level of performance. There are many videos of student performances. It could be great for students to see kids their age performing advanced music.

From the Top is the video series that highlights young performers. This website houses the more recent streaming videos, sharing the performers' stories and their performances on the stage. These videos are great resources for the classroom as they highlight young performers on all instruments and a variety of genres. This website is sponsored by the PBR. You have access to videos and podcasts about classical music and many other music topics. This would be a great resource for middle school and high student performers.

This community website is for children to share songs, build communities themselves, and create ideas with other children which will allow growth as a students and music lover. The purpose of this site is to give adults and students feedback on events happening, gatherings of music lovers, and to give insight into the quality of music. This site includes children's links to other websites such as Kids Music Connection and Children's Radio List. It also articles that include songs to sing, literacy learning, and events that take place within different regions of the United States.

Radio broadcasts leave Earth at the speed of light. Scroll away from Earth and hear how far the biggest hits of the past have travelled. The farther away you get, the longer the waves take to travel there-and the older the music you'll hear.

Radio website that allows several customization options for the style of jazz you are interested in.  These styles are even organized by instrument which is great for students to pick our repertoire that is standard for their instrument.

Includes a create your own Hansel and Gretel opera game, interactive lessons with Brahms and chamber music, a student focused podcast on broadcasting, and more. SFSKids Classic is an interactive website for kids. Students are able to learn, explore and listen to the instruments of the orchestra.

This website features interactive activities for kids that introduce them to musical concepts. The section titled "instruments of the orchestra" allows students to select specific instruments and hear their unique timbres. Students can also explore other unique aspects of the symphony orchestra. 

The San Fransisco Symphony Kids website allows students to explore classical orchestral music. Students can listen to the radio as it describes what is happening in the music, they can explore the instruments and hear how they each sound, and enter "The Music Lab" to learn about various elements of music such as beat, tempo, rhythm, and pitch.

Founded by Alan Lomax, the ACE website includes sound, photograph, and video collections as well as discussions/interviews and radio shows. There are also resources for teachers included as well as information on Alan Lomax and his work. Many primary source recordings of children's songs and games can be found in this collection.

This website is the internet presence for WBGO, a jazz radio station out of Newark, NJ. Along with the ability to live-stream their broadcast, there is a wealth of articles on current performers and their albums, as well as jazz news from around the East Coast. I share new music with my students that I've found here often.

"What is Jazz?" is a four-part lecture about jazz by Dr. Billy Taylor presented at the John F. Kennedy Center. Dr. Bill Taylor is a noted jazz pianist, historian, and educator. His four-part lecture dives into the history of jazz and the most important moments of jazz history. The first lecture centers around the origins of jazz in the African-American experience of slavery to the civil rights movement. This lecture explores the development of repertoire and techniques used in jazz performance. The second lecture discusses the techniques and traditions of jazz improvisation. The third lecture discusses the evolution of swing and rhythm/harmony with the inclusion of examples by a piano. The fourth lecture discusses the role of jazz in American culture and history, as well as the impact it has had on the world. 

This is a site where students can hear radio shows from the station of the same name as the site, hear instruments demonstrations, play musical games, and review terms from a musical dictionary. Teachers can also benefit from this site by taking advantage of its lesson plans and other teaching resources.

Great website for elementary music class. Easy to understand composer biographies, good music, fun games and a wonderful way to access classical music information.
