80 pc of iBeacon signals are inaccurate: xAd exec - Mobile Commerce Daily - Analytics - 1 views

  •
Whoa, I think the claim is that "80 percent of "current" location signals are reportedly inaccurate." Which would be legacy technology. The article states that iBeacons are much more accurate but not at scale yet so marketers need to be careful when doing location based marketing.

The brain speaks: Scientists decode words from brain signals - 0 views

  •
University of Utah researchers have successfully translated brain signals into words, which could lead the way toward making it possible for paralyzed people to communicate with their thoughts. The scientists recorded the brain signals while the patient repeatedly read 10 words that could be useful to a paralyzed person: yes, no, hot, cold, hungry, thirsty, hello, goodbye, more and less. Though the team made a lot of progress, the research has still not reached the level of accuracy good enough for a device to translate a paralyzed person's thoughts into words spoken by a computer.

Foursquare Explore now has ratings powered by where people actually like to go, not jus... - 1 views

  •
"Instead of other sites where every place gets 3.5 stars, we come up with our scores using the same Foursquare magic that powers Explore. We look at signals like tips, likes, dislikes, popularity, loyalty, local expertise, and nearly 3 billion check-ins from over 25 million people worldwide. And, with every check-in and Explore search, our scores will get smarter and better."

Access control system uses the human body for signal transmission - 1 views

  •
BodyCom is a new technology from Arizona-based Microchip that uses the human body as a secure communication channel. As the number of devices at our disposal continues to increase, authentication and security become more important than ever. The system communicates bi-directionally between a centralized controller and one or more wireless mobile fobs, using the human body as the transmission medium. So, a gun could only be used by the person with the right key fob, for example, or a pet door could be secured so only the right pet can open it. Neither RF antenna nor wireless transceiver are required by the system, which also offers low power consumption. Other potential applications include security systems, patient monitoring, and gaming profile management.

Bain: 80% of Twitter engagement is link clicking - Fortune Tech - 0 views

  •
When it comes to Twitter advertising, Bain says Twitter 80% of Twitter engagement consists of people clicking on a Tweet, while the remaining 20% is a Retweet or a Tweet. He thinks those are powerful signals, particularly if a user Retweets an ad: in doing so, they've transformed it from advertising to content endorsement. Case in point: two of the top 5 Tweets of all time are actually ads from McDonald's (MCD) and Disney (DIS) -- the others include Stephen Colbert's Tweet about the BP (BP) oil spill and Barack Obama's victory Tweet, "Yes we did." And when Volkswagen decided to unveil the new Beetle exclusively on Twitter, the auto maker saw a 52% engagement rate, which Bain says may have been the first time in digital advertising that "you were a minority if you didn't click the ad."
