Multimobile services are services you can use on your mobile phone. You can use these services in multiple ways - by interacting with a speech server, sending and receiving text messages, sending and receiving instant messages, etc. - hence "multimobile." The Whimsy Project's working hypothesis is that when certain conditions are met, a collection of multimobile services can have a positive impact on the educational environment of a college or university. The objective of the Project is to create software that will enable these conditions to be met. Pursuit of this objective has led to the creation of six interrelated products: 1. Whimsy, an infrastructure that enables the use of multimobile services; 2. Whimsy Toolkit, a web application that enables non-technical users to create notification and on demand services; 3. Whimsy SDK, a software development kit that enables developers to create custom multimobile services; 4. Whimsy Mobile, a customizable web site that provides a catalog of available services and a training ground for their use; 5. Whimsy Command, a collection of tools for administering Whimsy; and 6. Whimsy Support, a set of tools for providing user support.
