PDFs (portable document formats) are probably the most popular document format we use in our daily work as teachers and educators. As such, we deemed it important that we share with you this list of some interesting tools to help you do more with your PDF files. These Chrome apps will allow you to edit, annotate, convert, view, fill forms and share PDFs. Some of these add-ons (such as the first two in this list) are also integrated with Google Drive.

"Students and teachers can login to the DocHub app (or DocHub.com) using their Google account. From there, it is possible to upload any PDF, text document, or Microsoft Office file from Drive, the web, or even your computer/Chromebook download folder. Once a document had been uploaded, students can highlight, draw, insert text boxes, and even incorporate sticky notes. These annotated PDFs can then be sent to Drive or even shared with a link. Unlike some other web-based annotation tools, all of the annotations remain with the PDF after it has been sent to Drive though the sticky notes only appear when shared with a link."

Slack, a math teacher here in Maine. On Slackmath you will find dozens of PDFs of algebra problems (Geoffrey told me has plans for other subjects in the future). Each PDF contains QR codes next to the mathematics problems. After students complete the math problem they scan the QR code to check their answers and find a video explanation of how to solve the problem. Snapverter is a good application that allows you to convert classroom papers, images and pother teaching materials into Google Drive friendly files. 'Snapverter is an add-on for Read&Write for Google that converts printed documents and inaccessible digital files into readable PDF files for easy sharing and reading aloud in Google Drive.' Using OCR technology, Snapverter is able to recognize text from worksheets, handouts, book pages, and other printed materials.

Here is a terrific site for creating an online photo album or scrapbooks. This site also allows collaboration which make it ideal for group projects. Signing up does require an email address but no other personal information is needed. The site is very simple to use as all you need is to add pictures and then text to accompany each picture and the site does the rest. Once you are done the book can be downloaded as a PDF to be handed in or students can share the book with the teacher.

Comic Creator is very easy to use. To get started will have to provide a name to their cartoon, add a subtitle and type in the name of the author. Next, they select one of the four templates provided there and hit next. Now they can add characters, balloons and props. There is also a text book where they can write in a caption for their comic. once done they click on finish to print their work.
