AARP |:| Fixing US Healthcare - 0 views

  • The AARP just met with the leadership of the Mayo Clinic, one of the most outstanding medical institutions in the country. They provide excellent care at a cost that is less than most other parts of the healthcare system - and with improved outcomes. We asked them about their secret to success. Mayo has an electronic medical record and all their patients have their information online. The physicians are on salary, so there’s no incentive to order unnecessary tests or procedures, and Mayo has an ethic of patient-centered care, with a long history of attracting the best people and rewarding them. If Mayo can do it, why can’t everyone else? The AARP believes that the potential is there for most communities to have excellent care – we must emulate the care delivery of institutions like the Mayo Clinic, and put in place payment and information systems that will coordinate care management better. It’s a big job and will take some investment, but we have many opportunities to do a better job than we’re doing today.

The Expert Skills Program at Texas Tech - 0 views

  •
The Expert Skills Program (ESP) at Texas Tech was implemented in March, 2012, as a free access professional skill development opportunity for all interested students regardless of their institution. The ESP is named to reflect the broad goal of acquiring expert skills in areas ranging from clinical reasoning, patient examination, and communication to the fine motor skills employed in clinical procedures. We have been able to initiate skill development prior to formal clinical training by matching the steps used in clinical skills to the steps involved in higher order thinking skills.

The Need for More Sophisticated Simulation Applications - 0 views

  •
"Of course, cognitive simulation and cognitive rehearsal are important for improving physician performance in any specialty of medicine-surgical and non-surgical alike-no matter what the proportion of cognitive and procedural services. And simulation applications that could support the teaching and assessment of expert judgment would be valuable to medical education programs across all disciplines and throughout the continuum of medical education."

Design Based Medical Training - 0 views

Among the key determinants of learning a spinal anaesthetic technique are the acquisition of knowledge and recognition of certain characteristic "sensations" as the procedure is performed. A haptic device with mathematical algorithms is a way of replicating these "sensations", the physical make-up of each individual layer of tissue in a human back.

"The 3.0 platform update means that now all the apps have refined drawing tools. Can't draw a straight arrow? No problem, we took care of that! Want bold, italic, or larger text? We took care of that too! In addition, you can now scale, rotate, and change the opacity of stamps. All this so you can quickly and easily explain conditions and procedures at the point of care."
