This article discusses strategies of detracking students, working with families (i.e. community schools), and better ways of working with students of diverse backgrounds and how these strategies worked to close the achievement gaps.

This article uses a Pennsylvania Elementary school and its partners as an example of community schools and what it can do to help make education in and out of the classroom more attainable.

This blog post was very eye opening and had me reflecting on my own classroom and teaching style throughout. Jennifer Gonzalez is a middle school teacher who recently read a book called "Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain" by Zaretta Hammond. Upon reading this book Jennifer talks about her experience with teaching students whose cultures, race, language, etc. did not match what schools teach and value. Additionally, she felt that she could have done a better job at teaching and reaching these students, who are typically labeled "at risk." Something I often feel. In feeling this way, in what she hopes will help her close the gap, Jennifer talks about the brain-based approach she read about. She touches on the Ready for Rigor Framework and the four separate practices that can help improve teaching. This blog post touched home for me as I taught a handful of ELL students this year and for some I felt like I did not do my best and I could have done better.

The findings in the article explains what are some critical factors to closing the teaching gap. One finding that I found that was interesting was "Teaching, Not Teachers, Is The Critical Factor". It explains that the best teachers focus on the teaching methods that yield the greatest results in the student's learning.

Great article explaining learning gaps in students and that the gaps cannot alway be filled in schools. It is not solely the responsibility of the teacher to teach, there are other resources/people that can help end/lower gaps.

Kahoot is an excellent resource to incorporate technology, content, and fun in any classroom. I love using it. You can create your own, use one that is already made, or edit one of your liking. I mostly have used this as a review, but there is so much more that can be done with Kahoot and the kids love it!

This study focused on Russian, Arabic, and Chinese teachers but is relevant outside of these areas because it addresses characteristic of millennial learners and how teachers' own cultural identify and pre-conceived expectations can contribute to an instructional gap.

My Data Learning Team is looking at an area in which a class struggles. While the students are older than in this study, it's sometimes good to go back and look at other possible stresses on the student.
