Dear Professor and Class, Sibelius is a music editor software that gives music students, composers, and songwriters a platform to write, play and publish music notations. Sibelius is ideal tool for music students and teachers. Sibelius is used to construct professional and perfectly aligned notes. Sibelius allows users to write music, transcribe audio, share notations, scan and print music sheets. The software is adaptable and flexible. Students and teachers can import music from other programs such as iTunes and connect to several sites such as Facebook and Youtube. Sibelius also is capable of using Midi instruments. EDTC615 FALL2018 My SMART goal is after one marking period of examining musical examples, 90% of students will be able to recognize musical notes and form. This protocol is going to have a high impact on the student learning because the students are able to discuss and dive deeper into their reading. I can apply this to my music class by handing students a piece of music and having them look for the form of the song and the musical notes. They then pair up with someone with the same song and go over the notes a form together.

Dimension: Student Engagement Rating: 4 - High engagement for most students I particularly enjoyed this strategy presented by fifth-grade teacher Jennifer Dauphinais. The highlights for me were the students engagement from the very beginning in stating the 'Learning Goal.' It's one thing for the teacher to know what the end-goal is, but it strengthens the activity when the student understands the "why." Having students become "experts" in their reading to then discuss details and main ideas in groups is a great recipe for reading comprehension. The students have the ability to hear different perspectives and everyone has a voice. I really enjoyed this. Author Daniel Venables challenges educators in his book, How Teachers Can Turn Data into an Action Plan to "do something different in the classroom" if one approach doesn't materialize student-learning (pp. 60). My gropu's SMART Target Learning Goal is for 75% of students will improve their informational text comprehension by 1 grade level. Dauphinais' 'Jigsaw' method is a fresh approach to literature instruction and could be a great tool for us to get the students to reach this goal. #EDTC615 #Spring2018

In this blog post, Carrie Toth describes how she uses a 'musical chairs' strategy to help students collaboratively write a story. This requires them to first read and then build upon previous contributions. Carrie Toth describes how she uses this with her language learning students but it can be used in any content area to help develop student writing and reading skills. An additional benefit is that students get to move around and research shows the importance of physical activity and learning.

This article addresses the deeper connections between music education and bigger literacy goals. It especially discusses applications for improving literacy outcomes in secondary education students.

This is a website that helps connect students to the real world. It take a wide array of places you use math and sometimes don't think about it, like sports, music, fashion, restaurants and so many more. Videos are shown to show how math and the topic relate to each other and then students are given a task to help figure out using math. Students will be so engaged that they will forget they are even doing math!

Quiz Quiz trade is a great resource that fully involves students. Students are highly engaged in the reading and answering of questions with their classmates. This fits into my SMART goal of getting students to recognize their musical notes and forms because they can practice quizzing each other on different types of notes and songs.

I found this video to help with the dimension of 'Rigor and Relevance.' It explores the practice of 'language dives', something I was previously unfamiliar with. This video deals with them in the primary setting, but I think it could be easily adapted to secondary education, and can especially have a place in the music classroom. I do believe implementing these strategies could help me achieve my SMART goal of 100% passing rate on state and county standardized tests among my target SLO group.

Week 9: This is a great website to connect students to real life math problems. By doing math with real life problems students are problem solving like they would in a word problem, sometimes without even knowing it. This site gives sample lessons and projects to help teachers and parents connect math to the real world. Math covers so many topics that hopefully you can connect to your students that like music, design, weather and so much more.

The different resources on this site that give activities and ideas to introduce real world math situations to students gives an alternative way to teach mathematical concepts. Teaching these math concepts from multiple perspectives increases the chance of student success. By connecting math to the real world, students will become more invested in their learning.

This website provides links to many different websites that provide activities that students can participate in that will help them incorporate real world math problems. The article was sectioned off into four distinct sections including collections of real world math problems, online math activities, math collaboration, and more real world math activities. This is certainly a website that is worth saving and coming back to over a course of the year as there are many valuable resources that can be used.

This site is so much fun to design for students and even parents. It has awesome color themes and backdrops and offers a really fun way to get across information. It's like a homepage you can create with links to other sites, videos, pictures and more. Our school has a page and the kids really enjoy using it for library resources and etc. I am going to be using this for my class page this fall. I think this site is targeted for fifth grade and up. Younger students may be able to use some of the basic features, but it would require some instruction from the teacher.

I have used Glogster to replace a paper poster in the classroom. The students really enjoyed the chance to have a different presentation of a product.
