Using art to make math fun

Interesting article from Britain regarding computational fluency. I don't disagree that being fluent with computation increases a students future capabilities, but there is not necessarily causal effect that 'traditional' approaches to teaching computation make stronger mathematics students. It's the rigorous approach that I think needs to be emphasized.

Given that this year GATE exam have moved out online, applicants are looking for ways to get ready for the new test format. For this function IIT Kharagpur has provided applicants with a series of mock tests on its website to make known the candidates with the procedure of the GATE online test.

When students are engaged in learning science or math which is personal to them (real world problem solving), they become more engaged in the learning process. Project based learning situations in science and math increase opportunity for students to internalize and make connections.

Math videos to help explain skills/concepts. Tends to be very skill based, but offers multiple takes on the same skill so if a students doesn't get it from one person the next might be a better fit, short videos makes it plausible that a student might use, GREAT integration of vocabulary. Well worth incorporating into classroom practice to help students understand how to use formulas or manipulate equations. Also they are GREAT models if you want kids to create their own.

Teaching math to elementary students is critical for establishing a foundation of success in mathematics.
