Doors Open celebrates Toronto's architectural heritage. MaRS Discovery will be opening its' doors for the event on May 26 and 27th, 2012.

According to Theresa Boyle, Health Report of The Star, states that scientists have discovered the process that underlies in the development of cancer cell mutations in breast cancer. Mike Stratton who is part of the International Cancer Genome Consortium at the MaRS Centre states these "findings will go a long way in helping the consortium achieve its goal of mapping the genetic mutations in 50 different types of cancer by 2018."

Small business startup Wave Accounting has raised $12 million in its second round of funding, the company announced today.

Deena Douara, a MaRS Client has developed a mobile phone app that can alert authorities if a potential emergency situation arises called "WalkSafe." Douara completed the Entrepreneurship 101 program at MaRS Discovery District.

"Jack Stewart a biotechnology entrepreneur, is about to start a human trial for a drug developed from a compound found in shrew spit that could treat ovarian, breast and prostate cancers without many of the side effects of chemotherapy." Veronika Litinski, a Senior Advisor at MaRS in the Life Science and Health care practice says it is difficult to run trials with a clear robust criteria.

Wave Accounting co-founder and chief technology officer James Lochrie, and the MaRS Discovery District incubator in Toronto are the Canadian nominees for the 2012 Small Business Influencer Awards.

Baycrest is a provides healthcare for elderly patients and is the research centre for the development of innovation on aging and brain health.
