SITE 2012 is the 23rd annual conference of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education. Join with 1,200+ colleagues from over 50 countries in Austin, Texas! The participants themselves are the experts at the retreat! You will meet with other teachers from different disciplines and institutions, engage in highly interactive discussions, share successful teaching strategies and innovations, seek solutions to your own teaching problems and challenges, and much more (see instructions for Prior Preparation about what to bring to the retreat). The retreat facilitators will provide structure and guidelines to help assure effective use of retreat time, but you and the other participants will decide which issues are most important and relevant to discuss. Together, we will pursue a quest for the ideal of the "great teacher." The Red Rock Great Teaching Retreat is based on the seminar model of the National Great Teachers Movement, founded in 1969 by David Gottshall. This movement continues to grow with workshops, retreats, and seminars held across the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world."

The Teaching Professor Technology Conference will examine the technologies that are changing the way teachers teach and students learn while giving special emphasis to the pedagogically effective ways you can harness these new technologies in your courses and on your campus. The three-day conference will bring together faculty, instructional designers, faculty developers, educational technology leaders, and other higher education professionals interested in learning more about how technology is altering the learning environment.

Our conference is inspired by the concept of sustainability and titled "living to learn, living for life." For us, this theme encompasses living in an economically, physically, and culturally sustainable way and integrating sustained learning throughout. We are particularly eager to show you how environmental and educational sustainability connect in CBU's Verschuren Centre for Sustainability in Energy and the Environment, one of Canada's most sustainable university labs. We have invited two distinguished keynote speakers: Rex Murphy, who many will know as a CBC personality known for his word-smithing and lifelong passion for teaching; and Richard Gerver, who is inspiring teachers globally with his work on educational transformation.

The STEMtech conference is an international convening that emphasizes increasing student success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at all levels. Over 400 sessions focus on improving STEM education, better aligning educational systems with each other and local workforce needs, and exploring technology's role in the teaching and learning processes. College and university faculty members, K-12 teachers, administrators, government officials, community and business/industry representatives, and others involved in STEM education and information technology are invited to explore research, best practices, and other ideas with their colleagues from across the country and around the world.

What are our roles in shaping institutional priorities? What should they be? How do we position ourselves in our institutions to influence strategic decision-making about teaching and learning? On the spectrum of responsibilities from meeting the learning needs of individual teachers to facilitating institutional change, how do we reconcile the tensions that the expanding roles of educational development specialists can create? As institutional directions move to a greater focus on assessment of teaching performance, institutional accountability, e-learning and m-learning, how are the roles of educational developers, instructional designers, and curriculum specialists changing? To what degree to we want to harness these trends to shape how our profession is conceptualized?

The role of the educator has transformed. No longer mere conveyors of static information, teachers are increasingly entrusted with the responsibility to foster and develop life skills in students. Fostering global citizenship calls for the development of leadership skills, which may be especially challenging to cultivate in online learning environments. Transformation of learning experiences opens new opportunities for transforming the lives of life-long learners and leaders.
