Practical Guidelines for Using Technology Tools in Classroom Teaching | CRLT - 0 views

  • While technologies make it easier for instructors to create learning opportunities, provide prompt feedback, and improve student engagement with content materials, they also pose challenges.
  • Limit seven words per line and eight lines per overhead/slide.
  • Have a clear goal for using a video clip or clips
  • ...8 more annotations...
  • Avoid putting students in a passive mode of receiving information by combining the overhead/slide presentation with chalkboard/whiteboard use or other learning activities.
  • Limit the length of video clips.
  • Provide detailed instructions for students, including student roles and responsibilities
  • Create a comfortable atmosphere for the online conferencing/discussion, for example: Be an active participant. Challenge the students without threatening them. Use personal anecdotes when appropriate. Bring your own experiences to the discussion. Do not dominate a discussion or let a few students dominate it.
  • Energize the online discussion if needed (e.g., using role-plays, simulations, pros and cons).
  • Have a back-up plan for lectures (e.g., print or save the web pages on your local hard drive).
  • Emphasize the need for filtering and interpreting information on the Web when encouraging students to use online resources.
  • Use clickers in conjunction with teaching strategies such as “Peer Instruction” or “Think-Pair-Share” to improve students’ conceptual understanding of the content, as well as their critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Why is Education So Important in Our Life? | EdLab - 0 views

  • rst thing that strikes me about education is knowledge gain. Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life. People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge. Some say education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They are right. But then again, information cannot be converted into knowledge without education. Education makes us capable of interpreting things, among other things. It is not just about lessons in textbooks. It is about the lessons of life. One thing I wish I can do is, to provide education for all: no child left behind and change the world for good!! • First: Emphasize good teaching, not good technology. Most faculty members want to learn things they can use, and can use quickly, to address teaching and learning. They want to become "end users" of technology, not technicians who must stay abreast of every new development in hardware, software, and programming skills.

What Is Successful Technology Integration? | Edutopia - 0 views

  • Technology integration is the use of technology resources
  • One of the central ideas of digital or media literacy is that students should be come creators and critics, not just consumers, of media
  • Successful technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is: Routine and transparent Accessible and readily available for the task at hand Supporting the curricular goals, and helping the students to effectively reach their goals
  • ...15 more annotations...
  • Seamless integration is when students are not only using technology daily, but have access to a variety of tools that match the task at hand and provide them the opportunity to build a deeper understanding of content
  • teachers are also exploring blended learning -- a combination of both online and face-to-face education
  • Many of the most rigorous projects are infused with technology from start to finish
  • There has been a lot of buzz about the benefits of incorporating simulations and game-based learning activities into classroom instruction
  • devices like cell phones, mp3 players, and tablet computers are now being used as learning tools in forward-thinking schools
  • One of the first, and most basic, ways that teachers encouraged kids to use technology was with online research, virtual field trips, and webquests
  • in daily classroom practices, and in the management of a school
  • Connecting with others online can be a powerful experience, both for teachers and for students
  • Though social media tools are still blocked in many schools, students around the world spend vast amounts of time on social networks outside of school
  • The ultimate goal of technology integration is to completely redefine how we teach and learn, and to do things that we never could before the technology was in our hands
  • framework lays out the knowledge that educators need in order to successfully integrate technology into their teaching

Teaching with Technology - Tools of Engagement - 0 views

  • Using Clickers (Personal Response Systems) to Facilitate Active Learning in the Classroom Clickers allow instructors to assess students’ understanding of the subject matter, receive immediate feedback and reinforcement for what is being learned, get shy and under-prepared students to participate, poll students’ opinions and preferences instantly, observe student misconceptions, and encourage peer instruction. Improving In-Class Discussion with Technologies Use principles of priming, integrating and reinforcing to improve in-class discussions. Use available technologies as tools for supporting these principles.
