This WMS is the national database of Australia. It will allow you to view and make maps with a diversity of layers. It features two WMS bundles of themes; with WMS URLs: "http://www.ga.gov.au/wms/getmap?dataset=national&request=capabilities" is for National Geoscience Datasets, and "http://mapconnect.ga.gov.au/wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap?Version=1.1.1&Request=getcapabilities&Service=WMS&Servicename=GDA94_MapConnect_SDE_250kmap_WMS&" is for National Topographic Datasets (Jim P., July 2009).

National Geophysical Data Center WMS (and other format) themes, generally with global extent (some restricted to U.S.). WMS URL is easy to obtain by clicking "wms" button next to each theme. (Jim P., July 2009)

A catalog containing hundreds of WMS servers; WMS URL is linked to each.. A bit difficult to browse, but a lot of good layers for sites in the US and abroad. New list at OGC-Services.NET appears to be incomplete. (Jim P., July 2009)
