Facebook Will Predict The Next President - 10 views

  •
I am not sure where there is direct relevance to Learning Analytics. There is no doubt that mining the public data of social network will be useful for identifying trends, possibly with implications for learning. The big unknown is how reliable is it? Are these networks representative of a population or specific group? I am not convinced of that.

Learning analytics biblio - 9 views

  •
This is a fairly broad biblio of learning analytics related literature. We should likely take the LAK11 and LAK12 conference submissions and mine the citations to get a sense of how people are defining the analytics space.

CLO magazine, 2005, written by Chris Moore, Zeroed-In Technologies, post-THINQ and TrainingServer. Defines learning analytics as "... the study of the impact of learning on its learners." This is an industry take on the term/practice, which focuses on learning effectiveness and operational excellence. Data Data Everywhere and Not a Drop of Value - 6 views

  •
"Here's the thing. Data, big, medium or small, has no value in and of itself. The value of data is unlocked through context and presentation." And others will argue for 'actionable' data. Data beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A VC's take on analytics.

Twitter Is Selling Your Old Tweets [REPORT] - 5 views

  •
I find this rather interesting. Twitter has had trouble building a revenue model. Apparently, in accordance with the mantra that 'data is an asset', Twitter is selling old tweets for analysis (and then for marketing purposes). The twitter stream of the last few years is one of humanity's more interesting data/content creations as it captures ideas, resources, sentiments, and more. a library in 140 characters :)
