War and Peace in the Global Village Part III (pages 126-190) Marchall McLuhan - 1 views

This talks about how "technology disturbs the image, both private and corporate in any society, so much that fear and anxiety ensue and a new quest for identity has to begin". This helps me because I think it is a lot easier for someone to hide and protest behind a camera and act like they are tough and are going to do something big while yelling at a camera vs. going out and yelling a the government with few watching. So the images that we are seeing over here in America or anywhere else in the world could be full of people who are acting in a manner that they have never acted before. These pages are talking about how technology worked in other wars as well, so it gives me an idea of what it could be doing now (history repeats its self).

Culture, Globalization, Mediation - 2 views

This article helped guide my ideas for my video about how widespread technology can go across the globe. It talks about critical ethnography of the cultural politics of globalization and a broader concept of a medium. I like that it emphasizes on how we are a "public culture". That term is something I want to use in my video because everything we do now is public and the majority of people are okay with that.

Tech-savvy 'iGeneration' kids multi-task, connect - USATODAY.com - 5 views

I am getting the vibe that we're beyond iGeneration, as it seems they are a bit younger, but I found this section pertaining to learning that seemed relevant.  Because these kids are more immersed and at younger ages, Rosen says, the educational system has to change significantly. "The growth curve on the use of technology with children is exponential, and we run the risk of being out of step with this generation as far as how they learn and how they think," Rosen says. "We have to give them options because they want their world individualized." Verhaagen agrees. "They know almost every piece of information they want is at their disposal whenever they need it," Verhaagen says. "They're less interested in learning facts and learning data than in knowing how to gain access to it and synthesize it and integrate it into their life. We're talking about kids in elementary school and up and talking about much younger children who know how to get ahold of information. Their brains are developing in ways where they're taking in astronomical amounts of information, screening out unimportant details and focusing on the parts they need."
