Operator and vendor revenues across the main cloud services and infrastructure market segments hit $148 billion (£120.5bn) in 2016 growing at 25% annually, according to the latest note from analyst firm Synergy Research. The entertainment industry companies are calling for a ban on privacy services as that opens the door to foreign pirates. With the launch of legal streaming services such as Netflix, movie and TV fans have less reason to turn to pirate sites.

The Federal Communications Commission plans to move ahead with regulations that would allow Internet service providers to charge websites for faster service, according to an agency official. Consumer advocacy groups slammed the move, warning that the new rules will fundamentally alter the nature of the Internet and benefit the largest corporations.
