I set up this website in order to experiment with the emerging Semantic Web and Linked Data Web. I'm not really interested (at this stage) in creating a pretty website so please forgive the amateurish look of these pages. Maybe I'll change this with time, but for now I'm more interesting in what's going on under the bonnet and for now it's all about the RDF. These pages are best viewed in Firefox. Organisations that ban social networking sites and other Web 2.0 technologies at work will not be able to attract future talent, delegates at the CIPD's HRD conference were told.

A recent MIT study found that in one organization the employees with the most extensive personal digital networks were 7% more productive than their colleagues - so Wikis and Web 2.0 tools may indeed improve productivity. In the same organization, however, the employees with the most cohesive face-to-face networks were 30% more productive.

Last year, we undertook a massive overhaul of the technology and approach we use for knowledge management, moving from a centrally managed, linear, taxonomy- and repository-based system to one that leverages the best of Web 2.0, including social software, user participation, and key market-driven concepts like sponsored links. We see this as a shift from "knowledge management" to "knowledge sharing."

A brief overview of social web trends that we can anticipate taking up increasing air-space over the next 12 months. Some trends (e.g. Big Data) have wider implications than 'social web' but are included for completeness.

New McKinsey research shows that a payday could be arriving faster than expected. A new class of company is emerging-one that uses collaborative Web 2.0 technologies intensively to connect the internal efforts of employees and to extend the organization's reach to customers, partners, and suppliers. This paper introduces Dervin's Sense-Making Methodology (SMM) as an approach to KM system design using Web2.0. SMM is a philosophically derived approach which allows knowledge management (KM) researchers and practitioners to more fully understand and listen to user's needs so as to inform the design of dialogic KM practices and systems to promote knowledge sharing.
