List your opinions and evidence supporting our bill

One good part about our bill is that it includes mandatory rehabilitation for ALL kids. This is very good and will mean that for everyone that does not get a life sentence, they will have a second chance at life, and with , hopefully, a new outlook on life, also.

Also are bill sets up a fair system for juveniles. Only juveniles committing serious crimes are sentenced to an adult punishment. This helps to create a fair punishment for the convict.

Another good part of our bill is that it has some "checks," meaning that different group are moderating each other. For example, the state "okaying" a juvenile getting transfered is a good thing because it moderates the power the courts have and it also makes sure that the courts are making accurate and correct decisions.

I think that it is good that we have set guidelines meaning that we can control the outcome but it will definitely be the right one.

I agree with Kieran, Maeve and Chance. Our bill has some really good points that I support. Another really good one is that we're trying to make the environment when they complete their punishment better so they don't end up doing the same thing again.

Isabel, i agree with you. In our bill we have made a better environment. Kids can now go to a place that helps them become more educated and learn their lesson better than when they are in jail. Another good part is that it is still strict for big crimes but at the same time is better than just letting the kids stay in jail forever having really harsh crimes.

Also the age split for who can be tried in an adult court narrows the danger for very young kids who have hardly developed at all.

Hi - a strong discussion - well done! Remember to use your research to find the factual evidence supporting your opinions. The "voters" need to hear facts about why this bill will make life better.

I think that the way our bill describes needing rehabilitation is a good point because after all (most of us) learn from our stupid mistakes and by giving all juveniles a chance to see how they can change and not have this problem again will not only increase their possibilities in life but also the safety of our society. This website has some good information about the positive affects on how rehab is what juveniles wished they did after a sentence or arrest.

    Hope this helps....

"Research conducted in juvenile justice settings around the world consistently shows that young people who come to the attention of criminal justice agencies have multiple problems and experience high levels of need across all areas of functioning."
"Successful rehabilitation can impact these areas by decreasing the workload of these programs. Because those who complete rehabilitation are less likely to re-offend law enforcement can focus on current offenders. Those in rehabilitation programs or who have completed rehabilitation are less likely to increase the case load in the courts. Juveniles who have received may or may not be on probation. Those who are on probation may have their probation decreased upon successful completion of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation can decrease the burden on the corrections system by decreasing the number of juveniles that are incarcerated. Community services and intervention programs may experience an increase in juveniles enrolled in their programs. This will likely be due to juveniles complying with their rehabilitation programs. While each of these areas are impacted differently, the outcome is positive because the number of juvenile offenders is likely to decrease."
    These were very helpful.

Everyone is looking at the positive side, but we need to start looking at con's as well. We need to find things that our bill dose not do and see if we can change that in any way.

Ideas to stress for the debate in our favor:
    1. Our Bill provides fair trial for juveniles. Our bill has checks throughout the system in order to moderate branches of the processes
    2. We give juveniles a second chance. All juveniles go to rehabilitation, giving them the chance to start over and start a new "life."
    3. Our bill only gives a narrow age group that can be tried in an adult court, so that only a few specialized cases can be moved to an adult court. This saves people 15 of younger. Many people would agree with this because they believe that kids 15 and under are not fully developed and thus should not be tried in an adult court.
    4. Our bill makes the best decision for each case, so that each juvenile can make a "path to recovery."

    Ideas to defend in Debate:

    1. Time process (time for cases to be processed is too long)
    2. Capital Punishment (Our bill doesn't address capital punishment)
    3. Our bill can have juveniles sentenced to an adult jail. Some people would argue against this because they believe that putting kids in jail only makes the situation worse.
