One argument that you could make against our bill is that if we say that for very serious crimes, kids 15 -18 will be sent to an adult court, this means that they will be given the punishment that an adult would be given. OUr bill said nothing against capital punishment for juveniles, so if kids are sentenced this, they will die. This I don't agree with.
I agree Maeve. One problem for our bill could be the amount of time it takes for certain courts to make a punishment. I f a juvenile has to be moved from a juvenile court to a adult court and "okayed" by the state, this process could take a long time. States have lots of work to do, so, this process could take years and years.
You guys are right but i also feel that a good age should have been 16-18 instead of 15. 15 is way to young to be punished as an adult. I think 16 is a bit more reasonable.
Another argument about our bill could be that some states disagree about the age of a juvenile. Some states like vermont may have a higher age of juveniles than other states like Texas. I will look into ages.
Hi - Good start to your debate preparation. Remember to use the factual evidence from your research to support your opinions. The "voters" need to be convinced that this bill will make life better - how?
