Real school change would mean changing high school curriculum | What's Become Clear - 4 views

  •
"Real school change would mean changing high school curriculum" Yes I know blasphemy! But real school change would mean changing the high school curriculum. The high school curriculum has been part of what we believe schools must be for so long that we assume that it has to be that way. In fact our core curriculum has changed very little in 115 years. In 1892 [...] You may view the latest post at http://whatsbecomeclear.com/real-school-change-would-mean-changing-high-school-curriculum

Educational Networking - home - 10 views

  •
""Educational Networking" is the use of social networking technologies for educational purposes. Because the phrase "social networking" can carry some negative connotations for educators, the phrase "educational networking" may be a way of more objectively discussing the pedagogical value of these tools. The original URL for this site (http://socialnetworksined.wikispaces.com) still works, but http://www.EducationalNetworking.com is now the main URL. The page to list or find a social network devoted to education is here and in the navigation to the left. Also in the navigation are the page for keeping track of articles and blog posts which discuss educational networking, links to discussions on this topic, and pages which could be used for video and podcast tracking. Secondary College Reading Wiki - 5 views

  •
Preston Girls' Secondary College Reading Wiki to show and share with students and teachers how web 2.0 tools can inspire students to respond to set texts in a more creative way. Making book trailers Filming their own '60 second recap Making animotos Creating toondoos Using Flickr to make a showbag Developing a glog Creating a Google Lit Trip Making a Prezi Creating VoiceThreads and responding in Twitterature style are just some examples of how students can creatively respond to a book. Each link explains how the tools can be embedded into the curriculum and shows examples of how other people have used these sites to develop a book response. Some responses are better than others and it would be good to discuss with students beforehand what made certain examples better than others. For some of the presentations, students may need a Flip camera (such as 60 second recap) however the rest of the presentations could use photos and images from the internet. A lesson on Creative Commons and Wikimedia before students are let loose would help them understand their responsibilities in terms of selecting appropriate images and music to use. Once finished, students could show their presentations to each other and have them critique their work. Permissions allowing, presentations could also be uploaded to the school website or shown on parent information evenings or parent/teacher nights. Challenge: My challenge to you is to ask students to use one of these tools (can be in conjunction with a written response) in their next text response.

PLNs, Twitter, and Conference Tweet-ups | Teacher Reboot Camp - 7 views

  •
One of my favorite TV moments is when Norm of the series Cheers walks into a bar and everyone shouts, "Norm" as if they were welcoming him home. Part of the Cheer's theme song, Where Everybody Knows Your Name by Gary Portnoy, goes: Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got Taking a break from all your worries Sure would help a lot Wouldn't you like to get away Sometimes you want to go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You want to be where you can see Our troubles are all the same And this is what Twitter is for me, a place where my Personal/Passionate Learning Network (PLN) knows my name, they're glad I came and we find out all our educational problems are pretty much the same."
