When we talk about teaching, we are never just talking about a profession, but a passion. Unfortunately, while dodging the bullets of criticism and shielding ourselves behind the mediocrity of the standardization movement, we have found our eagerness to teach being chipped away. Educator Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach challenges us to rediscover our own passion for teaching by helping our students become passionate seekers of knowledge and understanding.

Why? Because tomorrow will take students to places - real and virtual - we've never been. Because tomorrow they will perform jobs that don't exist today. Because tomorrow belongs to them. iMovie has made a surge into classroom instruction, in part because of the rapid growth in the field of digital video and partly because of Apple's superior software design that offers tremendous ease for the user. Like all educational technology, desktop video editing is not a ubiquitous solution for all of the challenges teachers face in today's classroom. Teachers using digital video, in particular iMovie, have provided an abundance of anecdotal evidence for encouraging individual expression, spawning creativity, revitalizing content, promoting collective knowledge construction and individual reflection, and offering students of a variety of backgrounds and experiences to engage in authentic learning.

What's Youth Voices All About? Youth Voices is a school-based social network that was started in 2003 by a group of National Writing Project teachers. We merged several earlier blogging projects. We have found that there are many advantages to bringing students together in one site that lives beyond any particular class. It's easier for individual students to read and write about their own passions, to connect with other students, comment on each others work, and create multimedia posts for each other. Further, it's been exciting for us to pool our knowledge about curriculum and digital literacies.

Computer program helps students with music, literacy skills Students at a Florida middle school are enhancing their musical literacy through SmartMusic, a software program that scores students' attempts to play along with sheet music on a computer screen. Teachers can review the students' work and type in feedback and grades. The program does more than just improve musical knowledge, the school's band director said.
