iPads @ Inman - 0 views

In April of 2011, the USD No. 448 Board of Education, based upon a recommendation supported by the administration and staff, voted to approve iPads for all staff and all students in grades 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12 beginning in August 2011. We have been "pioneers" in the iPad one to one arena. The journey has been challenging, interesting, frustrating, enlightening, but most of all rewarding. Our staff has done an incredible job of embracing change and integrating iPads into our curriculum. They are providing an extremely important service to other educators--being a model school. What I have observed is that because this is such a new concept, other educators are much more inclined to get excited about the concept if they are able to see it in action. Thank you USD No. 448 staff members for providing a working model for other educators.

Hopscotch HD for iPad on the iTunes App Store - 1 views

  •
"Hopscotch allows kids to create their own games and animations. Kids unleash their creativity with this beautiful, easy-to-use visual programming language. Inspired by MIT's Scratch, the Hopscotch programming language works by dragging and dropping method blocks into scripts. When you're done with a script, press play to see your code in action! As you get more advanced, you can add more objects and use custom events, such as shaking and tilting the iPad, to run your code. Why coding? By the year 2020, there will be a projected 1.4 million computer jobs but only 400,000 CS students. Computer Science is among the highest paid college degrees and programming jobs are growing at 2x the national average. Many of the best coders fell in love with programming as kids at the age of 8, 10 and 12 years old. With Hopscotch, kids can build and perfect their own creations while while obtaining an understanding of the fundamentals of computer science. •
So many 1:1 schools around the world have found Student Response Network to be a fabulous addition to their wireless netbooks and notebooks, but there have also been many calls from schools that invested in the more affordable Apple iPod Touch as an interactive connected device for their students to use. We're happy to announce development has been finalized and that a new iPod Touch and iPhone app is available from Apple's AppStore. Student Response Network will now run with these excellent handheld devices, working in conjunction with the teacher's Windows-based SRN Server module.  Here's a sneak peek at the iPod Touch Client for SRN in action.
