The Impact of the iPad on K-12 Schools - 0 views

  •
Across the country, schools announce iPad pilots, bring the mobile devices into the classroom and rave about their new tools. "It's really the first version of the iPad, and there's a lot of bluster and a lot of sort of enthusiasm about iPads without a lot of concrete statistics and case studies to go by," said Sam Gliksman, educational technology director at New Community Jewish High School in West Hills, Calif.

Everyone learns differently. Social media marketing has a lot of moving parts and processes which make it hard to get up to speed. This challenge is only compounded by the ever-changing nature of the market, in which new applications and opportunities arise daily. Reading tons of blog articles, while important, takes a lot of time. Sometimes it is easier to see concepts visually to get a basic understanding and then do further research on the topics that are most relevant to your business. In today's post we collected some great visualizations of social media concepts including monitoring and content distribution. 8 Ways To Make Use Of Drop.io - 1 views

  •
File-sharing is a complicated beast. Some files are too big to send in emails; some need to be seen by a lot of people; some need to be private; some should be public. There are a ton of different applications that want to be the host for all of your files, but drop.io stands ahead of the pack. At its simplest, drop.io is a place to store files on the Internet. You create "drops" filled with files, photos, audio, video and more that you can share with other people. There's a 100MB limit on a given drop, but you can purchase more space if you want. Typically, though, 100MB is plenty- that's an awful lot of PDFs and Word documents.

Create Rich Text With Rich Notes - 1 views

  •
Create Rich Text With Rich Notes There's not a lot you can do with your notes in iOS for the most part. Most notes apps let you type and that's about it. If you need to call out specific sections of text or give emphasis to certain phrases, there's only so much you can do. Rich Notes is an app that allows you to not only create notes with bold, underlined, and italicised text, but you can also add color and even highlight passages. If you've been looking for a notes app that will let you create rich text in iOS, this may be the one. We'll take a look at it and see how it holds up against the rest. Like this article? We're Hungry & You Know It - YouTube - 2 views

  •
Hey everyone, Please go to link and watch the boys' video, "We're Hungry and You Know It." Not perfect but they worked so hard on it ...and it' s pretty clever! I had absolutely nothing to do with it...Zachary and Tristen (8th graders) really ran the show and saw this project to completion. They need lots of views so share with your friends! I'm a little bit excited since this is our first iMovie attempt, AND the very first time I've ever posted to youtube! In case you weren't aware, our students have been working on a protest against the federally mandated reduction of calories in school lunches. They have been bringing sack lunches to school since August, have written letters to state representatives, emailed the White House, and have received recognition by mail, local news, and some national syndicates who have called the school and picked up the story. They'd like to keep the momentum of the movement going, so please help by spreading the word. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u748SRboxVc

Study Shows Students Are Ditching Their PCs For iPads This Year | Cult of Mac - Cult of... - 2 views

"Study Shows Students Are Ditching Their PCs For iPads This Year | Cult of Mac " Replacing your PC with an iPad for school makes sense for a lot of reasons, and it will save you money on textbooks over the longrun. Even though PC manufacturers like Dell refuse to believe the Post-PC Revolution is already here, and that people want tablets more than desktops, evidence is already showing that students and schools are buying iPads instead of PCs.

Hands-on with iBooks Author - Just How Easy is It? | PadGadget - 5 views

"The app opens to a series of templates, which include basic, contemporary, modern type, classic, editorial, and craft. I'm assuming that you can also use custom created templates that have been downloaded from external sources as well. When a template is chosen, it switches into edit mode, which reminds me a lot of Keynote. There's a bar on the left that organizes all of your pages, and the window on the right displays the page currently being worked on. I chose to experiment with a picture book that also has some text. Welcome | Teaching Copyright - 0 views

  •
There's a lot of misinformation out there about legal rights and responsibilities in the digital era. This is especially disconcerting when it comes to information being shared with youth. Kids and teens are bombarded with messages from a myriad of sources that using new technology is high-risk behavior. Downloading music is compared to stealing a bicycle - even though many downloads are lawful. Making videos using short clips from other sources is treated as probably illegal - even though many such videos are also lawful. This misinformation is harmful, because it discourages kids and teens from following their natural inclination to be innovative and inquisitive. The innovators, artists and voters of tomorrow need to know that copyright law restricts many activities but also permits many others. And they need to know the positive steps they can take to protect themselves in the digital sphere. In short, youth don't need more intimidation - what they need is solid, accurate information.
