Educational Networking - home - 10 views

  •
""Educational Networking" is the use of social networking technologies for educational purposes. Because the phrase "social networking" can carry some negative connotations for educators, the phrase "educational networking" may be a way of more objectively discussing the pedagogical value of these tools. The original URL for this site (http://socialnetworksined.wikispaces.com) still works, but http://www.EducationalNetworking.com is now the main URL. The page to list or find a social network devoted to education is here and in the navigation to the left. Also in the navigation are the page for keeping track of articles and blog posts which discuss educational networking, links to discussions on this topic, and pages which could be used for video and podcast tracking. What Schools are Really Blocking When They Block Social Media | DMLcentral - 2 views

  •
"The debates about schools and social media are a subject of great public and policy interests. In reality, the debate has been shaped by one key fact: the almost universal decision by school administrators to block social media. Because social media is such a big part of many students social lives, cultural identities, and informal learning networks schools actually find themselves grappling with social media everyday but often from a defensive posture-reacting to student disputes that play out over social media or policing rather than engaging student's social media behaviors."

MaYoMo - Map Your Moments - Citizen Journalism online - Find, report and demand news wo... - 0 views

  •
MaYoMo ( Map Your Moments ) is a video-centric social news network for mobile citizen journalism. Our contributors and users include citizen journalists, bloggers, journalism students, experienced independent journalists and NGO's from all over the world. In other words, if you are aware of your surrounding life and you need to express your point of view on certain topics or events, you are more than welcome in our network. MaYoMo enables its users to ask for news and information from any corner of the world. Whenever you have a question about some event that you've just heard of or read about e.g., you can easily place a request in a country from MaYoMo's world map and ask what happened, when or where. Users from that region can possibly help you out by providing you any information available. This is how we let you get involved in the global events not only by witnessing, reporting or commenting them, but also by digging them out right from the place they have happened. As we know many people nowadays spend most of their time in virtual worlds, rather than in the real life, we've built them a special continent on our map. "Virtu" is the virtual continent where users can ask for news or send reports about events in worlds like Second Life, World of Warcraft and dozens more. Greetings, The MaYoMo Team

Youth Voices - 3 views

  •
What's Youth Voices All About? Youth Voices is a school-based social network that was started in 2003 by a group of National Writing Project teachers. We merged several earlier blogging projects. We have found that there are many advantages to bringing students together in one site that lives beyond any particular class. It's easier for individual students to read and write about their own passions, to connect with other students, comment on each others work, and create multimedia posts for each other. Further, it's been exciting for us to pool our knowledge about curriculum and digital literacies.

The time is finally here for my annual list of favorite sites of the year. This year, I decided to up my post to the top 100 instead of 25 due to the number of sites that I reviewed and due to the popularity of the post. I'll be posting links to creative projects on the 52 Projects Facebook page. I've been having fun on tumblr and twitter, why not join the Facebook party (where everyone seems to be spending their online time these days - so much so that even Google is worried.). I used to post more links here on the site, but it just makes more sense to post them into the social networks. It's less about blogs these days, and more about wall posts and feeds. I get it. * Share/Bookmark
