The Internet is a very time-consuming place. At best. At its worst it's a very time-wasting place. The question is: How responsible are you for wasting the time of others? Do you update your Facebook status or tweet or blog more often than you really need to? You don't have time to follow what all your friends are doing; do they have the time to keep abreast of everything that's new in your life. Do you ever wonder if all of this is a bit pointless?

When people consider fun activities to do on dates, only rarely do they consider reading together. Similarly, once children reach middle school, only rarely do parents read with their children. This should not be.

When things get bad, and if they haven't yet, they will, what do you do for inspiration? How do you wade through the muck? For me, I go back to the single best piece of writing advice I've ever heard.

Storytelling is in our blood. Since the dawn of man, human beings have told stories. We've sung around campfires. We've crafted poems, written epics, and we've even passed down knowledge using fiction. Man is a storyteller. Yet why do we write?

It is a strange feeling to be both compelled to do something and repelled in the doing of that same thing. What relief to discover that other writers, published ones yet, felt the same way!

In short, don't be shy to break the rules of grammar, if there is a good reason - if your writing will be more effective by doing so. The point of writing is to communicate as effectively as possible. The point of grammar is to give us a framework for better communication. If you sacrifice effective communication for correct grammar, you are missing the point. Just make sure that a broken grammar rule does not look like an accident; if it does, the only thing you will be communicating is cluelessness.

LOS ANGELES | January 28, 2012 Police continue a search for a man accused of sexual assault of a female UCLA student, the university which is ranked second of all universities nationwide and first in community service according to Washington Monthly's rankings. The sexual assault occurred at about 2:20 a.m. Friday at the top of the steps that connects the Saxon Suites dormitories with Gayley Avenue. The man accused of the assault called out to the female UCLA student while she was climbing the steps. After a short conversation, the man sexually assaulted her. Their brief conversation could have sounded something similar to the following: "Hey. What's your name? What's your major? Do you live around here? Yes? Well take some of this," and the sexual assault occurred. The assault victim eventually got away from the man and immediately called the police, who arrived shortly thereafter and after the man had already fled the scene, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. It appears that UCLA police are looking for the suspect who is described as a 6 foot tall white male weighing 150 pounds and about 21 years old with short brown hair and blue eyes, according to a crime alert issued by the UCLA's campus police department. NBC4 was told by several students that the sexual assault occurred along a narrow stairway where other similar crimes have occurred in the past. Those students said that female students usually try to avoid walking the stairway alone at night.
