List of breakdance moves - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • The Top Rock is a combination of steps done while standing up. This is the entry dance that Bboys and Bgirls use to start their set. These steps are done before you do a power set or before you go down to the floor. This is the breaker's chance to show how well he or she can rock the beat and/or make gestures to intimidate their opponent
  • The foundational footwork sequence. Although many variations exist that either add or subtract steps in the sequence, the 6-step is the most basic form of downrock.
  • A Power Move is any type of move in Bboying which requires spinning and/or rotating in a way that can be done so in multiple rounds. All Power Moves (or series of a type of Power Move) can be connected in combos to form a "Power Combo". Breakers that use mostly Power combos in there sets are commonly known as "Power Heads". Example: Flare-Air Flare-Elbow Air Flare-Air Flare-1990...etc Or-Air Flare 1.5-Babymill-Windmill-Swipe-Windmill-Halo-Headspin...etc The possible number of combinations are endless and only limited by stamina, strength and imagination. In 2002 The Guinness Book of World Records began tracking number of power move rotations for their world record standings. At that time Canadian Gregory Burbidge broke records for Air Flare, Headspins, and Elbow Airflares. American Lauren Jacob held the record for Chair Flares. American Laura Derrick held the record for Tappingmills. Nicole Jones (nationality unknown) held the record for Munch Airflares. In 2004 Guinness removed these titles from their records. At the time Gregory Burbidge was the only one who still held records from the original group.

  • The most common type of ovarian cancer is epithelial, accounting for approximately 90% of all ovarian cancers. Epithelial ovarian cancers appear to arise from the surface of the ovary and spread by shedding cancer cells, which are then implanted throughout the lower abdomen. The disease usually spreads without notable symptoms, accounting for the fact that over 70% of epithelial ovarian cancers are diagnosed after the tumor has already spread beyond the ovaries. The other types of ovarian cancer are germ cell and sex cord–stromal tumors.
  • Epidemiologic studies have shown that risk factors for developing this cancer include increased age, never giving birth, infertility, a history of breast cancer or endometrial cancer, and a family history of ovarian cancer.

How The Music Industry Garnered Record Profits in 2008 | Medialoper - 0 views

  • the American Music Industry has never been healthier.
  • “People don’t realize it,” said Stamphammer in a recent interview, “but we started planning for this back during the teen-pop era. In fact, remember when that N’Sync album sold 1.1 million copies in its first week? 50,000 of those were digital files.”

  • they saw it as a marketing opportunity: fans of an artist were marketing that artist to other fans. Using the most powerful tool of all: the artist’s music.
  • What people don’t remember was that the original pricing was 99 cents per song, and $9.99 per album. After about a year, research showed that while people valued their downloads, they didn’t value them in the same way they valued physical media.
  • After all, one of the ongoing complaints about .mp3 files has always been sound quality, and with bandwidth increasing, storage getting cheaper, and portable devices supporting lossless formats, it only makes sense.

First Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving History - History.com - 0 views

  • In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. This harvest meal has become a symbol of cooperation and interaction between English colonists and Native Americans. Although this feast is considered by many to the very first Thanksgiving celebration, it was actually in keeping with a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. Native American groups throughout the Americas, including the Pueblo, Cherokee, Creek and many others organized harvest festivals, ceremonial dances, and other celebrations of thanks for centuries before the arrival of Europeans in North America. Historians have also recorded other ceremonies of thanks among European settlers in North America, including British colonists in Berkeley Plantation, Virginia. At this site near the Charles River in December of 1619, a group of British settlers led by Captain John Woodlief knelt in prayer and pledged "Thanksgiving" to God for their healthy arrival after a long voyage across the Atlantic. This event has been acknowledged by some scholars and writers as the official first Thanksgiving among European settlers on record. Whether at Plymouth, Berkeley Plantation, or throughout the Americas, celebrations of thanks have held great meaning and importance over time. The legacy of thanks, and particularly of the feast, have survived the centuries as people throughout the United States gather family, friends, and enormous amounts of food for their yearly Thanksgiving meal.

Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • More has been published about the extinction of dinosaurs at the K-T boundary than any other group of organisms. Excluding a few controversial claims, it is agreed that all non-avian dinosaurs went extinct at the K-T boundary. The dinosaur fossil record has been interpreted to show both a decline in diversity and no decline in diversity during the last few million years of the Cretaceous, and it may be that the quality of the dinosaur fossil record is simply not good enough to permit researchers to distinguish between the choices.[54] Since there is no evidence that late Maastrichtian nonavian dinosaurs could burrow, swim or dive, they were unable to shelter themselves from the worst parts of any environmental stress that occurred at the K-T boundary. It is possible that small dinosaurs (other than birds) did survive, but they would have been deprived of food as both herbivorous dinosaurs would have found plant material scarce, and carnivores would have quickly found prey to be in short supply.[35] The growing consensus about the endothermy of dinosaurs (see dinosaur physiology) helps to understand their full extinction in contrast with their close relatives, the crocodilians. Cold-blooded crocodiles have very limited needs of food (they can survive several months without eating) while warm-blooded animals of similar size need much more food in order to sustain their faster metabolism. Thus, under the circumstancies of food chain disruption above mentioned, non-avian dinosaurs died [55] while some crocodiles survived. In this context, the survival of other endothermic animals, such as some birds and mammals, could be due, among other
