This article describes the election of the 2008 election for President. Obama's election will go down as symbolic and inspiring victory for coming generations. A large amount of Obama's victory was due to the youth vote. With the rising of facebook and social networking Obama's ground swell support came from this generation of people on facebook and using social networks. He attempted to interact with American voters via online social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. Obama teamed up with Chris Hughes, a facebook co-founder in order to podcast and mobile messaging. Obama is a natural Facebook politician. On his personal Facebook profile-which featured his "Our Moment Is Now" motto-Obama named his favorite musicians as Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, and Bob Dylan and listed his pastimes as basketball, writing, and "loafing w/kids" (note the hip shorthand aimed at appealing to young voters). The 72-year-old John McCain, by contrast, never managed to connect on Facebook. He gave one of his pastimes as "fishing" and listed Letters From Iwo Jima among his favorite movies. McCain even got "punked" by a Facebook prankster who posted a phony policy announcement right on McCain's online profile: "Dear supporters, today I announce that I have reversed my position and come out in full support of gay marriage ... particularly marriage between two passionate females."

The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is responding to claims about the production of a Facebook oriented Operating System, and possibly a Facebook phone. Zuckerberg dismisses these claims and responds that his goal is 'breadth not depth', meaning that he is focused on spreading Facebook to a variety of platforms rather than going in depth on one.

This guy, the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is one brilliant man. One thing that confuses me is the this thing about the HTML5 and about Windows 7 for phones that will affected when released for mobile Facebook. But still, this dude I think is definitely going to competing with Bill Gates when it comes to who will the richest.

This talks about students who become obsessed over Facebook and decide to deactivate their accounts.

This article tells the readers about the students who use Facebook, however these students become obsessed(for lack of a better word) over going onto Facebook. It also tells the reader about how some students had began to do worse in school due to overly checking their Facebook account instead of doing homework or studying. This articles tells me about students who had taken action against this, after realizing that they were not doing as well as they had before they had decided to deactivate their Facebook accounts and work harder. However some student said, ""This is temporary. I'll be back," is another." This says that once students have caught back up in school they would reactivate their accounts. This may lead them back to their old habits, but hopefully not.

Facebook is quite the distraction for many students considering that they lose their responsibilities towards their priorities. Often, many students do begin lacking in their school work due the urge to constantly check up on their Facebook for any new notifications. So their action of deactivating their account can't always have a positive impact, for some people are currently addicted to Facebook, taking it away is just not the solution. But for those that can actually handling the deactivation of their accounts are bound to pick up their grades again. When you mentioned that a student said "This is temporary, I'll be back," the student already knows that Facebook is quite the entertainment and cannot "live without it." One can only hope that when students reactivate their accounts, that they won't repeat their mistakes in distracting themselves from their school work.

USA TODAY researched social networking policies for 27 schools in six major conferences, including the University of Iowa, which will implement a new monitoring policy Friday. Five of these schools already have specific monitoring policies in effect - Auburn, Iowa State, Ohio State, Miami and North Carolina. Others warn athletes of the potential dangers of sites such as Facebook and MySpace through student-athlete handbook policies, meetings, coach's discussions and even letters. Some schools don't have a specific policy but allow coaches to monitor at their discretion, or take action if inappropriate material online is reported. Iowa's policy puts senior leaders in charge of monitoring profiles of athletes' on their team and bring problems to administrators, who then work with the athlete, associate athletic director Fred Mims said. Administrators will not get involved, Mims said, unless issues are brought to their attention, in which case they will talk to the athlete about addressing the issue and check out the profile, public or private. Yuval, there have been different cases of rape and murder through the use of social networking. Was the person who used facebook this way ever caught? Now, Facebook is one of the most secure social networks, with so many users online that its privacy settings are very well established; users are able to prevent others from viewing their profile. Its something old social networks have used as well, yet not to the extent that facebook is ensuring its users.

The article is primarily about the increased usage of social networking sites for altruistic advances. Sites like Twitter and Facebook have become sources of information for people to discuss and come up with relief for the disasters occurring all over the world. Due to the increased usage of these networks, the perfect "central" location to reach out to many groups of people seems like the best option. As seen, the hours spent online every week can be finally put to use for the greater good.

People's face book accounts are being hacked by others alarming all the users about their security.

I agree with you on the issue of security and problems with hackers in this day and age. However, there is something that you may not have thought about. What happens when people create fake Facebook accounts in the name of other people? They have the power to not only use someone else's identity, and enter their friends group, but also create much damage for the person. It is harder to hack a person's account than to just create an account with anyone's desired name. It's a scary thing to know that there many be another Carmen in the world, that looks exactly like you, even taking up your likes/dislikes, and doing everything as if they were you, when it is clearly not. That is an entirely new issue of privacy, and authenticity. An email, user ID, and picture of you is all they need. Anything is possible, whether it's hacking, people not hiring or accepting you into their college because of your Facebook, or having someone take your identity. The internet isn't so safe anymore now is it?
