The Fourth of July weekend is a great opportunity to take a break, but during the rest of the summer, it's important to keep those brain muscles flexed with fun learning exercises.

Project Noah is a tool to explore and document wildlife and a platform to harness the power of citizen scientists everywhere.  The app is pretty intuitive and turns a smartphone into a scientific tool that takes advantage of the metadata that the phone can track as well as it's ability to gather digital image, audio, and text data.

Below you will find links to iPad applications that target the various levels of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy. I only included free apps that were "content-neutral" to make them usable across the curriculum. I also tried to include apps for the iPad only, but a few iPhone apps may have snuck in!

 We at Apps in Education believe that the iPad has caused a major shift in education and in the publishing industry. From textbook publishers, to education software companies, everyone is taking notice of this benchmark in education technology.  As an educator, I've seen this shift first hand as I visit classroom, and as I track the adoption of the mobile technology in education.

Joshua A. Danish says it takes a village to effectively integrate new technologies such as the iPad into elementary classrooms. As we reported recently, some school districts are investing in iPad2 touchpad tablets in kindergarten classrooms. In an opinion piece published in the Indianapolis Star, Indiana University assistant professor Joshua A. Danish says that though tablets such as the iPad have potential to be a powerful tool for teaching and learning, educators shouldn't jump the gun.

Nice article outlining some issues that higher education is thinking about when it comes to mobile technology. 

One of a growing number of quiz apps that are available. Easy to use, but a litte rudimentary in that it only allows you to take a quiz and does not have a study mode. You can review your results and analyze how you are doing which is very cool. Easy to create new quizzes and share, which is good, and you can add images to your quizzes, which is key.  I still think I prefer gflash+ for it's flexibility in the study mode but it might be a nice combination of apps for some online quizzing using MC questions. 

Commercial site, but Verizon does a nice job of setting a tone that includes mobile learning devices. They aren't into it for altruistic reasons, but they are moving in the right direction.
