What Would You Pay for a Great Educational App? | MindShift - 5 views

  •
"But there's one thing app users have discovered: there are apps and there are apps. Some will invariably be single-function duds. At $1, it's not much of a risk (though it does add up if apps are indiscriminately charged). The bigger question is this: Would consumers (parents) be willing to make the ideological jump to paying more for a quality educational app? Maybe - if they knew what goes into making it."

15 iPad Apps to Enhance Students Creativity ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning - 17 views

  •
"I am revisiting this topic of enhancing students creativity using iPad apps for the second time this year. Almost 10 months ago I featured here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning a selection of some great apps that can be used in class to boost students creative thinking; and today and after having reviewed hundred of new educational apps since that post, I decided to compile an updated version of that list and include some newly featured apps in the category of creativity. Of course by creativity I mean giving students the chance to take their learning to the next step, one in which they are active producers and participators in knowledge building. Creativity is all about creation and iPad is an ideal device to support this creative thinking. Check out the apps I have handpicked for you today and share with us if you have other suggestions :"

Recording video on the iPhone - Tips from The Kim Komando Radio Show® & Web site - 0 views

  •
Some good advice from Kim Komando re recording video on the iPhone. Sure hope an app is developed soon! I'm not willing to jailbreak my phone yet.
  •
The iPhone does not include a tool for recording video. The problem isn't that the iPhone isn't capable of recording video. It is. However, it does not include an application that will do it. Nor is there one in the App store. a number of developers are working on video recorders. In fact, you can download a video recording app online. Several are available. I strongly recommend that you avoid these apps, though. Why? The fact that they're not in Apple's App Store is a big clue. They're not approved by Apple. In order to install one, you must jailbreak your iPhone. Jailbreaking an iPhone replaces its firmware. How to Spot and Avoid iPad and iPhone Apps with Fake Reviews | PadGadget - 7 views

  •
"When I'm considering an app review, or considering purchasing an app for personal use, one of the first things that I do is to read the user reviews, as I'm sure many of you do too. Unfortunately, a newly released app or an app without a lot of reviews can sometimes have fake reviews, planted by developers or their friends, to trick unsuspecting customers and artificially inflate ratings. We've developed a quick guide that will help you avoid apps that are being falsely promoted."

The Barber Of Infinite Loop: How The iPad Could Give Microsoft A Serious Revenue Haircu... - 0 views

"After Apple pushed its 25 billionth app this weekend there was nothing especially surprising about the list of all-time paid apps for the iPhone: games and novelty apps dominated it. But the list of all-time paid apps for the iPad was somewhat revealing. Pages, Apple's word processing app, was up there at number one. Numbers and Keynote were on the list as well, as well as Penultimate, QuickOffice Pro HD, Notability and Splashtop Remote Desktop. Almost 25 percent of the list was comprised of productivity apps."

As I continue to explore new apps on my iPhone, I am striving to post about two types of apps each time: a game or fun app and one that is educational or increases productivity in some fashion. Also, I plan to highlight one free and one purchased app each time.

Always great to find recommendations for iPhone apps from other educators. Liz Kolb mentioned Karen Montgomery in her recent radio show and Karen is sharing her favorites on her blog. Intrigued by Yummy which is a free bookmark manager that allows you to search Delicious and add/edit bookmarks from iPhone. Just wish it worked with Diigo too!

Here are three free apps that basically offer the same services as the Cards app, though bear in mind that these apps do eventually charge you to send off physical greeting cards to your loved ones."
