This, state Sen. Amanda McGill told Arlington High School students Monday, is how women and children can get wrapped up in human trafficking, and that it's happening right here in Nebraska. The average age of entry for victims of sex trafficking is 13 years old. - Government reports and advocacy groups point to a strong correlation between youth homelessness and sexual exploitation. - Congressman Paulsen is a long-time advocate for combating sex trafficking and has testified in front of a Ways and Means Subcommittee about what can be done to address the issue. House Judiciary Committee Approves Three Bills to Combat Human Trafficking - 0 views

  •
    - "While we have strengthened our laws to combat human trafficking, we still have work to do to put an end to these heinous crimes. I am pleased that the House Judiciary Committee today approved several crucial pieces of legislation that hold everyone involved in these crimes accountable, whether they sell, buy, or market these crimes to potential buyers. These bills also ensure that exploited children are treated as victims rather than as criminals and provide much-needed resources to victims of sex trafficking that will help them reclaim and rebuild their lives. I thank my colleagues, Representatives Ted Poe, Erik Paulsen, and Ann Wagner, for working on these important bills and urge the House to take these measures up as soon as possible." - Congress must take the lead and ensure that victims of human trafficking are no longer treated as criminals. - According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), sex trafficking is the fastest-growing business of organized crime and the third-largest criminal enterprise in the world. One organization estimates that child sex trafficking in the U.S. is a $9.8 billion industry. - Since these crimes usually occur outside of the public eye, it is difficult to estimate the number of minor victims of sex trafficking. One study estimates that over 290,000 American youth are at risk of becoming a victim of sex trafficking. Additionally, from 2004 through 2008, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force experienced an increase of more than 900 percent in the number of minor sex trafficking complaints.

This article is about a police man that stopped a man with two 18 year old girls or younger in his car because he had a vehicle code violation. A few weeks prior, there was a similar situation. This is useful to my research because it tells about human trafficking in Albany NY. The driver gave officers false information. The girls were found to be reported as missing and possibly abducted from Las Vegas. The Richmond man was arrested for human trafficking and giving false information. The girls were handed over to Child Protective Services.

Technology as a Tool in the Fight Against Human Trafficking - 0 views

  •
In 2013, approximately 27 million people were affected by Human Trafficking. U.S. Departments of the state have been trying to find ways to end Human trafficking through different ways. One way that this speech talks about ending the fight against Human Trafficking is by technology. Benton states "Those who work to combat trafficking have begun to harness technology as a tool to raise public awareness, stop traffickers, and help victims." Some of the top priorities for stopping human trafficking is the connection between technology and human trafficking. Cdebaca (an Ambassador) states "Editorials and stories suddenly are showing up in newspapers because this communications technology of the telegraph suddenly brings it into your home, and for the first time, people in the United States started confronting the reality of slavery. It wasn't something that just happened over there down in the South."

Human Trafficking - 0 views

This is very helpful for my research paper because it tells a lot about the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act. This Act was signed in 2000 by Congress. A decade later, human trafficking remains prevalent. According to the most recent figures available (Source: United Nations, International Labor Organization): There are at least 12.3 million enslaved adults and children around the world "at any given time." Of these, at least 1.39 million are victims of commercial sexual servitude, both internationally and within national borders. More than half, 56 percent, of all forced labor victims are women and girls. Many people think of the sex trade when they think of human trafficking, this crime also occurs in such labor situations as: -Domestic servitude -Labor in a prison-like factory -Migrant agricultural work. In addition, with respect to labor situations, the initial agreement to travel or to perform work does not mean that the employer is later allowed to restrict a victim's freedom or use force or threats to obtain repayment. Helpful terms: -Coercion -Compulsion -Constraint -Restraint

The recent dismissal of five human trafficking cases against a female shop owner in the Bartica Magistrate's Court is of grave concern to the Guyana Women Miners Organisation (GWMO) whose President Simona Broomes has cited it as a clear indication of the authorities' unwillingness to seriously address Trafficking in Persons (TIP) in Guyana.
