SpeakIt! - 2 views

  •
Tired of reading? Select text you want to read and listen to it. SpeakIt converts text into speech so you no longer need to read. SpeakIt is an app that uses Google and iSpeech text-to-speech service. It allows students to select text and it will read it in more than 50 languages. I think this will be a great tool for English learners and special education students because it will offer material in a different way. Some schools do not have translators for English learners and this app is going to facilitate their communication with the teachers as well as their understanding of the material.
  •
This is a really cool extension. I especially love that it is able to read other languages.

EasyBib's New Extensions: two/too "easy buttons"? - 0 views

  •
EasyBib released its chrome extension that allows users to cite websites automatically and offers a credibility review of the site as a source. The author who reviews this extension asserts that the citation feature is really useful, but the advice on credibility depends too much on the website domain and is not smart enough to distinguish between the different content available; rating opinion pieces, comments, and news articles on an approved site equally credible.
  •
Interesting , not sure if its effective but really cool for people who do not want to do citations.

Education upgraded: Elementary schools integrate technology to improve classroom learning. - 1 views

  •
Nearly 100% of all Hastings Elementary students have learned how to create basic computer codes. This was accomplished by exposing K-4 graders to something called "block coding" which is where students are given a set of blocks that represent commands. They use these blogs to "debug" and "create" a program. The article also outlines technology literacy.

Getting Started with Diigolet - Diigo help - 0 views

  • Tags help you find and organize your bookmarks by letting you select all of your bookmarks with a certain tag or combination of tags. Quickly add relevant tags to a bookmark by clicking on any of the recommended tags that appear under the description field on the “Save Bookmark” pop-up. When you are satisfied with the information in the “Save Bookmark” pop-up, click the “Save Bookmark” button. Now a link to the page is stored in your Diigo library, and the information you entered is stored with it.
  • Highlight Highlighting lets you denote important information on a page, just like highlighting in a book, but with Diigo, the highlighted text will be conveniently saved to your library as well. There are some important things for me to denote on my recipe. My wife doesn’t like pineapple, my grandfather can’t have eggs or chocolate, and I don’t like coconut very much, so I highlight those items on the recipe to let me know I need to deal with them. Highlight by clicking “Highlight” on the Diigolet. Then select the text you want to highlight. The text will be visually highlighted and the text is now stored in your library. It’s that easy. Click the button again to exit highlighter mode. You can also change the color of a highlight by clicking the downward-pointing arrow next to “Highlight” and choosing a color. Colors are useful for differentiating different types of highlights. I will use a different color for each of the different people I need to consider.
  • To add a sticky note to a highlight, simply move your mouse cursor over a highlight. When the little pop-up tab with the pencil on it appears, move the cursor to it and a menu will appear. Choose “Add Sticky Notes”. Now you can type and post a sticky note just like before, but this time it will be tied to the highlighted text.

Stockton University - Calendar - Week of Mar 20, 2016 - 1 views

  •
Google Calendar is exactly what the title states; a calendar. The calendar is like any other google extension in that it is accessable anywhere and the teacher has control. This would allow teachers to post and edit assignments from anywhere and allow students to access it at anytime. This is especially useful for those students who are constantly losing things.
  •
This is similar to mine. However I believe this is the future of of most teaching. The ease of online use and grading makes teaching much more effective and accessible.

Oh My Word! Vocabulary Builder - 1 views

  •
Oh My Word! can help students create their own personal dictionary online. It is a chrome extension that lets users select words they find online, and define the words to be saved into a personal dictionary. This could be a great tool for students of any age, and for either short- or long-term projects. Even for personal use, the tool looks like a great way to expand your vocabulary!
  •
Cool. This would be great for students doing research when dealing with unknown or new words that may pop up in their studies more than once. Great way to refer back easily and get a better understanding for the words.

E-Learning: Technology changing the culture of the classroom - 0 views

  •
A brand new article, Technology changing the culture of the classroom is about as up to date on the benefits of technology as you can be. In the Southwest Allen County school district, they take technology very seriously. They have a 1:1 ratio of student to ipad. They also use assigned technology for 1:1 learning and allows students to work at their own, as well as letting them to use their own imaginations and minds to work through critical thinking. They digitize the entire process so that work can be done at school and at home. Digital literacy is becoming just as important a skill to learn as regular academia literacy.
