This article explains how virtual worlds, found in such games as Minecraft and Second Life, could be used as tools for educators in the classroom. When Second Life first came out in 2007 educators were excited about the potential to use it for education, but found that it was too unruly and wild. Now, as time has passed and technology has advanced, virtual worlds are on the rise again thanks to Minecraft and educators are seeing new possibilities on how to utilize and have better control and understanding of open world games. This class, INTC 2610, is all about exploring technology and learning how to utilize it in a class setting and there really is nothing more immersive and limitless than open worlds. 

I found this article about how to replace old methods of teaching with new Active ways such as Collaborative learning, Personalized Learning, and Project-based Learning. I think these three ways are what we will be doing in class together this semester.

This article is helpful to our class because it establishes how important technology integration into our classroom is, and that in order to do so we teachers must be trained professionally. This improves our quality as educators.

What a wonderful article! Teachers, Principals, parents, and students need to read this article. Our 21st century learners are quite different than they were 15 years ago. Technology integration in the classroom is a proven fact that students will be critical thinkers, higher order learners, and be competitive in the real world. Love it.

This article discusses the shift we are seeing in the classrooms as more and more technology is integrated. It is helpful because it shows us how we, as future teachers, must use technology with our students. We must trust them with the technology. We are no longer going to be in classrooms where we have more access to technology than our students. It is going to be universal. We will be using technology  interactively with the students and the students will have a better understanding of the subject, and technology they're using.  

This article discusses the technology movement we are currently experiencing all around us. Technology is everywhere and this is what todays children are being brought up on. This is the normal to them unlike students who were learning even just 10 years ago. Technology is the future and we as future teachers need to embrace it.

This article peaked my interest: Within the next ten years, de Blasio is requiring all of the city's public schools to offer computer science for all students.These courses will only be offered as electives. The main concern for this is finding enough teachers that are properly trained and training others. Computer science jobs are among the fastest growing. They are also the some of the highest paying jobs.  Computer sciences are primarily dominated by white or Asian males. With these courses being available to all students in elementary schools, hopefully the number of minorities and girls who will be interested will increase.

Quickly create a new Google Doc. It's just a single click from your menu bar. I found this really cool because it's an easy way to access your google doc without going into your drive!

I love google docs and found this article taught me a few things that I did not know about it!

Does what its suppose to do. The extension is a good time saver for people who use google docs more often than everyone. I hate waiting for docs to load in order to create a new document.

A brand new article, Technology changing the culture of the classroom is about as up to date on the benefits of technology as you can be. In the Southwest Allen County school district, they take technology very seriously. They have a 1:1 ratio of student to ipad. They also use assigned technology for 1:1 learning and allows students to work at their own, as well as letting them to use their own imaginations and minds to work through critical thinking.They digitize the entire process so that work can be done at school and at home. Digital literacy is becoming just as important a skill to learn as regular academia literacy.

Oh My Word! can help students create their own personal dictionary online. It is a chrome extension that lets users select words they find online, and define the words to be saved into a personal dictionary. This could be a great tool for students of any age, and for either short- or long-term projects. Even for personal use, the tool looks like a great way to expand your vocabulary!

Cool. This would be great for students doing research when dealing with unknown or new words that may pop up in their studies more than once. Great way to refer back easily and get a better understanding for the words.

Nearly 100% of all Hastings Elementary students have learned how to create basic computer codes. This was accomplished by exposing K-4 graders to something called "block coding" which is where students are given a set of blocks that represent commands. They use these blogs to "debug" and "create" a program. The article also outlines technology literacy.

When integrating technology into the classroom, it is important to remember 5 different topics - attitude, pragmatism, humility, adaption, and self-scaffolding. Be open to ideas and uses of technology students may want to show you and when introducing something new, always remember baby steps.

Students in 600 districts nationwide will have their very own Apple iPad. A lot of schools have scratch textbooks and moved to using ebooks on the iPad. There are so many different lectures, videos, and textbooks on the Apple's ITunes U Store for students to use. 

The article I found was very interesting. HARMAN, a leading technological company and Little Kids Rock, a national music nonprofit teamed together in a partnership to strengthen music education across the country. Dinesh Paliwan, CEO of HARMAN said "our goal at HARMAN is to inspire the next generation to realize their possibilities through the power of music, technology and service".

I found this article to be extremely helpful and sort of fun! Its a summer reading list for teachers to help us learn and understand technology and how we can integrate it into our classrooms. Who said teachers could not have summer reading lists as well?

I enjoyed this article because it brought the topic of computer science within the school classroom to light. Computer science is a field sky rocketing in terms of opportunities. There are always jobs available for these types of professions and the industry keeps growing because of the high demand for technological advancement. The idea of training our students so that they are somewhat comfortable with the common computer applications also exposes them to a new world because many students specifically women have little to no interest in such an important and growing field because they've never experience it.

I found this article that relates to our class. It relates to our class because it talks about how todays students are starting their schools years using more technology then ever before. Instead of having students writing, they are swiping screens. This article labels the skills that technology can help improve in students today.

This article calls into question finding a balance between technology and educators in a classroom. It describes a need to find a way for technology to enhance teachers, not replace them. This relates to our class because as we are learning to use new technologies, we must also learn how to effectively incorporate them into a classroom in a way that augments what we are teaching to students.

One main concern with integrating technology into the classroom is who is going to teach the current teachers how to use this technology if they don't know .. well here is a great article for teachers who are struggling with technology. Learn It In 5 is a relatively new site that features short how-to videos for teachers. The videos are intended to help teachers quickly learn how to use some of the the web tools are essential to being a successful user of classroom technology. The videos cover tools like Skype, Diigo, VoiceThread, and more.

The purpose of this policy is to provide safe parameters for exploring digital resources and using school-issued devices properly. The article talks about the importance of developing internet use guidelines that students can understand by avoiding overly complicated words that may confuse or intimidate students. These guidelines should focus on how students should use the technology rather than focusing on what they should not be doing. The article also focuses on the importance of involving parents and helping them understand how their children should be using technology. Furthermore, the article mentions the importance of being aware of the new apps and their implications in the lives of students. This allows school districts to stay one step ahead and decide whether or not they want students to have access to these apps.

This is a very informative article about how to integrate twitter into the modern classroom lesson plan. It shows that social media platforms can be used in schools and develop good academic skills. It also provides insight and opinions from professionals in the field.

Project ReimaginED is based of of Sarah Winchester's idea for her eighth grade students workshop which allowed students to comment and grade each others works anonymously. This was a great idea and could be a tremendous help to anyone need a technological helper in their creative writing class or if the class is new and not comfortable with each other yet. Project ReImaginED is a contest for teachers to show off their ways of infusing technology into their classrooms in order to win. Winchester's idea allowed the students to express their ideas without having to share their identity so some may be more inclined to say more than the usual, "It was nice. I liked it." When they have to workshop their peers. Project ReimaginED "allows teachers to see what their peers have already or plan to implement in their classrooms and encourages teachers to try technologies in ways they have never imagined." It does not say what the prize is for winning.
