This social networking blog by Pam Dyer has some really great infographics (think like graphics that actually provide relevant information in an educational way) that lend themselves to starting awesome classroom conversations. Talk to your students about social networking, the benefits and pitfalls of Facebook, why Instagram is taking over, and how to avoid being a terrible Twitter user. She does a fantastic job providing relevant and important information to the average consumer, but it impacts educators even more. Check it out for a good read!

Google Docs Story Builder - 3 views

This amazing new tool (new to me at least) allows you to create a short story and set it to music using the Google Docs interface. When you are done it creates a short link to share out to all your family and friends. This has amazing implications in education and technology for use as a quick check for understanding, overview video, formative assignment, or quick creative writing assignments.
  •
This is a great new tool that I stumbled upon while doing some research for another project. It kind of brings together all the neat stuff Google is doing with Documents, collaboration, music, and short URLs.

This is something I have been looking into for our communications director - how does she "work" from home, but still access and work on FCP at school? This may be the solution.

If anyone uses the Casper Suite as an MDM then JAMF Nation is the place to check out new ideas, add in new comments, and change posts on how things work.  It is a good look for those of us that use this software on a daily basis.
  •
Whatever you may use to manage iOS and OS X devices, this is a great resource for you to post a question and get some awesome feedback on management. Yes, the group is geared for tech staff and those using their software, but they leave it intentionally wide open. Also note the "jobs board" in the lower right corner is not just for them, but for tech jobs around the globe!

Review - Notebook for iPad app - Teachers Love SMART Boards - 0 views

  •
The SMART Notebook iPad app has arrived!  I personally have not had a chance to look at it, but the author of this article did.  James does a wonderful job explaining the pitfalls to using this new app - especially when we have a SMART board in a classroom.

Thank you!  Invest in the people!

They have no clue.  Kind of sad that they do not know going into the experience what their outcomes are!

  • But after seeing how easy the iPads are to use -- kids become their own experts by getting answers to their questions through YouTube videos or educational apps -- Pole changed her tune. Now she plans to get schooled on the iPad herself.

This makes me wonder what they are really finding out answers to.  Also, is that the only thing they are using the iPads for?  Really!

"More fun" that sounds like the iPads are being used for educational purposes for sure!  They must be a tool that connects directly to the curriculum.  Either the student does not get this or the reporter failed to understand why they are using iPads.

No surprise there with the designation, but really - most are purchasing these devices without the proper pieces in place. Sad that it has taken the ed world by storm, but there is no idea how to actually include this in instruction...read on!

This is a great article looking over the iPad craze and the Flipped Education idea in Minnesota schools.  It still makes me wonder what we are trying to teach out students by using these devices - What is the educational goal?  This article also points out the need for an investment in teacher training as an essential part of a technology program.  Check out the sticky notes and highlighting for more information.
