  • explore the possibility of setting up a self sustaining data base and service to collate and summarise academic Journal policies on the deposition of data
  • Investigate current state of Journal data policies
  • ...23 more annotations...
  • Investigate current data sharing views and habits
  • digital data becomes a problem, where should it be stored? In a repository? On a website? Embedded into articles?
  • This is a journal data policy,
  • where to share or deposit research data that is relevant to a published article
  • initially analysed 230 research data policies and found many inconsistencies and a lack of standardisation
  • form of data to be deposited,
  • where the data should be deposited
  • researchers first, they said that they would be happy to share their data (with certain caveats, which I will not go into here).
  • most of them only shared with colleagues
  • No time, don’t know where, difficulty of accessing Institutional repositories
  • current research models do not value and encourage data sharing (
  • However there was some discussion about the long term availability of repositories.
  • Worries about links,
  • Data sharing landscape is a mess
  • Develop a model data policy framework, which takes into account the concerns of all the stakeholders
  • Can Journal data policies encourage deposition of data?
  • Understand current journal data policies
  • Would anyone bother to use the service
  • We analysed some journal data policies in depth
  • What was in the policies? Main areas were data type, when to deposit, and where
  • Funders are asking for data plans to be included in funding bids
  • Universities are installing data management systems

The re3data.org registry allows the easy identification of appropriate research data repositories, both for data producers and users. The registry covers research data repositories from all academic disciplines. Information icons display the principal attributes of a repository, allowing users to identify the functionalities and qualities of a data repository. By April 2013, 338 research data repositories were indexed in re3data.org (http://doi.org/kv3).
