  • This said that to provide capital for these new parent-run schools, the government was taking £50m from the Harnessing Technology Fund for schools.
  • So, the question that is worrying many in education is whether the government is making these cuts reluctantly in order to avoid hitting core school budgets or whether it is indifferent, or even hostile, to ICT in education?
  • Mr Prince takes a similar view. He fears that without government support for ICT it will be like the 1970s when pupils only did science in primary school if their teacher happened to be a science enthusiast.
  • failed to elicit any clear policy on ICT.
  • Research from the US Department of Education, concluded that "students who took all or part of their class online performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction".

PISARESULTATENE OG SKOLENS FRAMTID - 0 views

Dette gir to hypoteser om dårlige norske pisaresultater:   a)      Bekvemmelighets hypotesen.

  • First, there's a new emphasis on the importance of collaborative learning among members of close-knit teams in schools. School leaders are beginning to believe in the human capacity of their faculties and are structuring opportunities for teachers to reflect on instruction together.
  • Second, digital tools now help fulfill Elmore's desire for fresh "portals through which new knowledge about teaching and learning can enter schools."

  • His studies noted the significance of students' active participation in learning, placing him in the camp of constructivism, a cognitive development theory that contends that learning is “an active process in which learners construct new ideas or concepts based upon their current/past knowledge” (Constructivist Theory).
  • People move through three stages of cognitive development in the way the mind is used to translate experiences into a model of the world (Bruner, "Toward a Theory of Instruction" 44-45). Enactive: During earliest childhood, learning occurs through movement or action (as when babies learn to walk or a child learns to ride a bike). Iconic: During middle childhood, learning occurs through images or icons that represent or summarize objects or events (as when children draw pictures of their families or a summer vacation). Symbolic: During adolescence, learning occurs through abstract symbols (as when students are able to represent mathematical functions using equations or understand metaphorical language such as “Too many cooks spoil the broth”).
