APA Referencing (I was a little bit rusty at referencing, so I thought it might be helpful for all students who also needed some help with referencing)

Down Under Teacher: Aussie Blogs - 10 views

  •
Hi all - this blog has been created by an Australian teacher, she has compiled a list of other Aussie teachers and some of the creativity that these guys have is amazing. While a lot is to do with the younger years and not a lot of ICTs, it's a great way to share creative ideas to keep children engaged. I thought it was worth the mention!

An Aussie teacher's blog as well as links to other great teacher bloggers!
  •
A blog created by an Australian Teacher that has the buttons of many other Australian teachers. Contains info on early childhood to high school.
  •
This blog is by a fellow Queenslander who teaches the 4th grade currently so I find this blog to be super relevant. It also contain a few freebie resources for activities in the classroom and also little posters to display around primary school classrooms.
  •
I thought this one was good because it is an Australian perspective rather than an international perspective.
  •
Awesome Primary School Teacher with plenty of resources
  •
Aussie Teachers blog. Heaps of resources and links to other teachers blog pages.
  •
I often get emails asking if I know of other Aussie blogs. I know how hard it can be to find them - when I started my blog, I couldn't really find any other Aussies at all! I called my blog Down Under Teacher in the hope that I would connect with other Aussies.
  •
A blog set up to link and share ideas for Australian teachers.

One of many such lists which give some ideas about how Twitter can be used in the classroom. Some food for thought for those who are a bit doubtful about Twitter.

"A Magazine Is an iPad That Does Not Work.m4v" wow I have never seen anything like this before.. It looks like she has become so accustomed to using an iPad that she doesn't know/forgets how to flick through a magazine. What are your thoughts on this?

For me - as I think you can probably guess from how I used it - this talks to me about how technology becomes mythic. This child's schemas are such that she assumes everything has a touch interface. While she's currently wrong, it may not be that long before that is the case. From there lots of implications and questions flow.

Age bracket - Prep- Year 2 Science - English learning area I think this is great, especially as it has the Hungry caterpillar story incorporated as well as using the video story you could use the hard copy of the book as well great theme for the lessons. The only problem I see having is if there are any technology issues with the whiteboard to prevent from using. Otherwise I think this is an excellent resource.

I just completed my assignment 2 on year 4 science.. I thought this was rather fitting. I like how it has numerous games that containers audio aswell. Only problem I can see is that it clearly wouldn't work if the IWB or the stick wasn't working.

Behavior Management Software - ClassDojo - 2 views

This software is currently being used at my children's school. It is like an electronic version of giving out 'stickers', etc for good behaviour. Each day I can see how well my children performed in the classroom and each week a report is generated and emailed to me. This is used in conjunction with an interactive whiteboard, where the children can touch their name/dojo character and give themselves a point for hard work, etc.

Thought I would share, interesting idea for behaviour management using ICT. Hopefully more engaging for students
  •
Wow! That's a great idea. All students in any grade level like to be rewarded. I will share this link with the school I work at. Thanks!
  •
Love this idea! I will share with my school too
  •
Magical idea, Luv it. Will save a small fortune for teachers worldwide, as we tend to buy these incentives from our own back pockets in an attempt to engage kids in our classes. Even as a pre-service teacher the little buggers have already cost me......

Thought this might be an interesting read for you. I think there are some pretty good reasons in this article to be using ICTs in the classroom. And some of them might seem crazy now, but a little story.....before ATMs were around, my dad (and I'm sure others of his generation) saw the ATM concept on a documentary and said, "That's ridiculous, no-one is going to go to a hole in the wall to get money out", I still laugh about it.

Devlin's Angle: The difference between teaching and instruction - 0 views

Blog post looking at the distinction between instruction and teaching in mathematics. But has broader implication. e.g. "instruction" as used here sounds a lot like direct instruction etc. Also points to some thoughts on the limitations of videos - like Khan Academy

Research also suggests that educators help motivate students by using materials and implementing activities that students consider meaningful (Spratt, Humphreys, & Chan, 2002). As one of Pinkman's students wrote, "...once or twice a week I check my blog and then other students write comments for me, my motivation is up, usually teacher check my blog, so if I read teacher comments my teacher thought about me, my motivation up" (Pinkman, 2005, p. 20). Due to the popularity of computer and Internet technology and the growing interest in blogging, it was expected that our group of learners would also find the use of blogs in their English language study highly motivating.
