The next Stage: Moving from isolated digital Collections to Interoperable Digital Libraries:
Online collections do not yet function like conventional libraries. Many digital collections are experimental and lack service components, and few have preservation components. The function of searching across collections is a dream frequently discussed but seldom realized at a robust level. This paper places a conceptual framework upon digital library development, and discusses how we might move from isolated digital collections to interoperable digital libraries.
Day 1: of Community Media Workshop:
"Social Media Listening and Literacy For Nonprofits"
Not a social media listening for dummies.
it deals with how to work effectively with social media in terms of search terms: "now have an idea to tie those tools together into an effective and central listening hub."
I'm working on several projects linking the historic collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum with Indigenous source communities in Canada. Ironically,, I'm finding that the Indigenous groups are way more savvy about social media than this academic...So, we are posting images of objects on Flickr for people to think about before they come to Oxford to see them, have started a Facebook (invited) group for participants, and are thinking about other ways to use new media to create new relationships between museums and overseas source communities.
