On Saturday 29 April 2000 the V&A staged its first Day of Record, a proposed series of events cataloguing applied and decorative arts in relation to the body. Over 1500 tattooed people visited the Museum on that day to have their artworks photographed for inclusion in the V&A digital archive of tattoos. This site is the product of that day.

I have finally taken the time to read newly-published -quite newly, mid-September 2010- Horizon Report on Museums by the Marcus Institute for Digital Education in the Arts (MIDEA), the arts branch of the New Media Consortium.

Der Kurator Rolf Wolfensberger und der Museumstechniker Max Leiser vom Berner Museum für Kommunikation gewähren im Gespräch mit Dominik Landwehr einen Blick hinter die Kulissen eines technischen Museums.

A story has a beginning, a middle, and a cleanly wrapped-up ending. Whether told around a campfire, read from a book, or played on a DVD, a story goes from point A to B and then C. It follows a trajectory, a Freytag Pyramid-perhaps the line of a human life or the stages of the hero's journey. A story is told by one person or by a creative team to an audience that is usually quiet, even receptive. Or at least that's what a story used to be, and that's how a story used to be told. Today, with digital networks and social media, this pattern is changing. Stories now are open-ended, branching, hyperlinked, cross-media, participatory, exploratory, and unpredictable. And they are told in new ways: Web 2.0 storytelling picks up these new types of stories and runs with them, accelerating the pace of creation and participation while revealing new directions for narratives to flow.

"UK Museums on the Web 2009: The everyday web: situated, sensory, social" Today, the Web is becoming increasingly a more multi-sensory place, with new visual interfaces, rich sound content, where content can adapt to our physical location, and even where interactions can be triggered by bodily movement. Likewise, software and services (just like our content) can today move with us. This year UKMW will look at digital heritage in the everyday - situated, sensory, social.

"During April 2011 MuseumNext ran an online survey about Facebook and the way that museums should use the world's most popular social network. This survey was posted on the fan pages of several museums and we are grateful to those institutions for their help."

Eleven projects result from the first two calls for proposals under FP7. Start dates are between November 2007 and February 2009/25 research projects have been launched and will be running up to 2009.
