Tourism Strategy Making: Insights to the Events Tourism Domain - 0 views

    The Primary aim of this research was to undertake a qualitative study of how public sectors events developing agencies in Australia determine strategies to foster events tourism and the stakeholder orientations they adopt in shaping these strategies. Events tourism has been described as the planning development and marketing of events as tourist attractions to maximize the number of tourist participating in events as either primary or secondary attractions. A strategy is an integrated set of policies and programs intended to achieve the vision and goals of the organization or destination. For this investigation, three different framework of events tourism strategy making depicting alternative stake holder orientations were created. They include: * The corporate market-led framewook * The community destination framework * A synergetic framework The reactive-proactive model of strategy making employed by Australian event agencies appeared to be associated with Corporate market-led strategy making.

Trends in Tourism Research - 0 views

    This article outlines how the study of tourism as an academic field has grown tremendously and experienced rapid changes. The author selected twelve major tourism journals for the research. The twelve journals received a mean quality rating above 3.0 and represented a range of importance ratings. The most frequently published topic area Tourist/Visitor Studies showed the greatest growth during an eleven-year period. The majority of articles used quantitative research designs. A much lower proportion of articles took a qualitative or mixed method approach and the remainder were review of theoretical articles. This study has tracked the rise and fall of various research topics and approaches within the broad area of tourism. It suggests that as the field has grown, research approaches and locations have become more diverse, although there is still a need to challenge some of the established and traditional methods.

    Citibank initiated a comprehensive health management program in 1994 using program services offered by Healthtrac Inc. The objective of the study was to estimate the financial impact of the program on medical expenditures. The employed several methods including a quasiexperiemental design comparing medical expenditures before vs. after the intervention for program participants and non participants.
    Results of the project revealed a similarity to published evaluations of healthtrac programs implemented with other populations.

    Introduction Many Fast Food Restaurants are using the Point of Sales Systems in their food and beverage establishments to take orders from their customers. These systems are being distributed rapidly at a fast pace and has become increasingly popular in the food and beverage industry to improve customer service, operational efficiency and food safety. Food and Beverage entrepneuers are also adapting to these emerging technological systems to remain competitive in their industry and to increase growth of the business. There are diverse Restaurant Management Information System components that are used in the fast food industry. They comprise of Inventory Menu Managements control Systems, Labour Scheduling and Time Management Systems, Reservations and Table Management. . This study reviews the constraints of the existing system used in the restaurants and proposes a potential System solution called Restaurant Customer Self Ordering System. Customer Self-Ordering Systems allows prospective customers to order for food electronically while in the restaurant. This system proposes to limit customers' wait time and improve customer service. However, it may have some challenges that include a high cost to implement the system, the intergration into existing systems and staff adoptability of the proposed system. It was further recommended that a solution to the implementation of the proposed Customer Self-Ordering System could be to implement a web-based system that allows customers to access food menu/beverages and order via the internet with the use of their mobile phones at any time and any where they may be. It is anticipated that this new system feature will attract a wider range of audience and potential customers.

    Factors Affecting the E-Commerce Adoption by Small Hotels Introduction In today's world, ICT's are absolutely necessary for just about every facet of life. More and more people around the world are finding themselves increasing their use of the internet to assist them in almost everything they do. Computers and the use of the internet have become daily tools in the lives of people, changing the way we live, communicate with each other and educate ourselves. The use of the internet for commercial purposes has also increased significantly. Many businesses depend on computers and internet for their daily operations. The internet serves helps small businesses by bringing their customers together in one setting to conduct business transactions and discuss pertinent matters. It is also a very inexpensive way to conduct business transactions and still maximize profits for small businesses. The use of computer and Internet has affected many industries, however, the one most impacted is the hospitality industry. Despite this, small hospitality business owners still do not use the internet and the web to its full advantage. As a matter of fact, only a small number of these businesses use a secure server for online bookings (Hudson & Gilbert, 2006). If the small businesses expect to remain competitive and sustain their businesses, they need to adapt to the revolving technological environment. Conclusion After examining a small percentage of small hotels to ascertain what some of the factors are affecting small hotel's adoption of e-commerce it was determined that the implementation process was not as easy and straight forward. They also found that it was not a uniformed process for everyone. Finally, despite some of the hotels adopting the implementation process quickly, it took longer for others to adopt the e-commerce applications.
