Moonstone Hotels Selects ATRIO(R) PMS For Their Entire Five Property Collection - Finances - 1 views

  • ATRIO dramatically reduces on-property technology requirements and data security risks. PAR Springer-Miller employs agile development methods with ATRIO, resulting in frequent product releases and the ability to react quickly to market needs for new features.
  • “The notion of moving to the next generation property management solution in the cloud, without the hardware investment of traditional PMS, attracted us to ATRIO PMS,” commented Winter, Moonstone Hotel Properties. “The move from a capital expense to an operation expense with the SAAS model of service will also allow us to be more nimble in how we can allocate our resources.”
  • The ATRIO hospitality technology platform continues to expand with ATRIO POS and ATRIO Distribution, reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for hoteliers and management companies by embracing true cloud computing, minimizing on-property technology, and reducing implementation and training costs to increase staff efficiency and productivity.
  •
Atrio® is an app based PMS system that is completely hosted on the cloud. The program is built for the way most of us approach new technology. Many of us, especially those entering the hospitality business as young professionals, learn technology by simply looking at it. By this I mean that we expect technology and applications to be self-explanatory. It is an "I want to do X so I will click on X" mindset. Atrio® is set up so that a new user can use this approach to learn the basic functions of the system. Par Springer-Miller, the parent company, states that an individual will be able to check a guest in to a hotel room with zero training and should be able to make a reservation after only being shown one time! This significantly reduces training costs and time. In addition, the completely cloud based system minimizes on-site technology and therefore reducing implementation costs and hardware/software investments as well as allowing for seamless updates. After reading the article, I viewed a YouTube video posted by Par Springer-Miller here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtqtxN2SBJY. I must say, I wish my property would look into Atrio®!

  • In order to keep pace with the demand for the cloud-based property management system, PAR Springer-Miller has expanded their global ATRIO sales organization.

Though essentially an update from one company regarding personnel acquisitions, this article features the next generation of cloud-based property management systems. It also indicates, based on the growth of this company, that properties are willing to invest in cloud-based technologies rather than suffer the constant depreciation and maintenance that goes with traditional, in-house servers. As with other systems, the two most important items will be reliability and security. If both are provided by PAR Springer-Miller while reducing cost for hoteliers, both sides can potentially benefit. This system is also "built for the cloud", so it's not an online adaptation of a previous system. This may again help improve reliability and security.

How Much PMS Do You Really Need? - 1 views

  • Several vendors are developing new systems, though none have yet approached the rich functionality of older products with years of enhancements built into them.  At the same time, many multiproperty brands are looking to replace their existing standard property management systems, but as their strategic emphasis has shifted from central reservations (CRS) to customer relationship management (CRM) they’ve been wondering whether the new PMS really needs to have as much functionality as the old one.
  • Some brands developed their own PMSs, such as Marriott’s FSPMS and FOSSE, Starwood’s Galaxy and Hilton’s OnQ; others standardized on third-party systems. However, in all cases they mandated only the PMS and left it up to the individual properties to decide what to use for their other operational areas.  As a result, several vendors who concentrated on chain-hotel business focused on producing pure PMSs, with functionality covering the traditional core of individual and group reservations, check-in/checkout, folio charges, housekeeping/rooms management and the all-important CRS interface. MSI, RoomKey, Galaxy, SkyTouch and Infor’s epitome and HMS are examples.
  • Other vendors looking more to the independent and resort market expanded their PMSs to include sales and catering, spa/golf/activity management, CRM and sometimes even POS, both retail and food and beverage. For this segment of the market these integrated PMS applications (from vendors such as Agilysys, IQware, NORTHWIND and PAR Springer-Miller Systems) became their most strategic system. A few companies (including Cenium, IDS, Indra and Prologic First) have taken it even further, extending out into full ERPs that cover every operational area including financial and supply chain operations. MICROS falls between the two camps, offering a well-integrated PMS/S&C/CRS suite but relying on third parties for guest activity management and financial systems.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • If you’re an owner/manager of a new-build property, there’s a great deal in favor of having as comprehensive a system as you can get, even up to the ERP level of one system managing the complete operation.  If you’re the owner or manager of a franchised brand property you have no say in which PMS to use anyway, though you’ll get the best results if all your other management systems are as well-integrated as they can be amongst themselves as well as interfacing with the PMS.
  • The real world being what it is, properties seldom fall into one segment or the other. Commercial city center hotels often need sales and catering systems, and many have added spas or other guest activities. Pure PMS vendors therefore developed good interfaces to link up with the third-party vendors’ systems typically used to manage these areas. Conversely, properties in the independent and resort world often already had existing point solutions in specific areas, and so vendors typically made their systems very modular and developed interfaces to link to the other vendors’ products until such time as they could, perhaps, replace them with their own modules.
  • Given the varied demands of the different market segments, there will always need to be a mix of vendor approaches, but whatever else it’s attached to, a well-designed, intuitive and well-interfaced PMS module is still the core of operational success at every property.
  •
It gives a discription of how nowadays'  hotels develop and use of their PMS. Some brands develop their own PMS such as Marriott and Starwood; some look more to the independent and resort market expanded their PMS. It seems that we don't need so much kinds of PMS and so many function. According to the analysis of the market and demand, it comes the conclusion that a well- designed, intuitive and well-interfaced PMS module is still the core of operational success at every property.

The Future of Property Management Systems - 2 views

  • Ask anyone — from the front desk clerk to the GM — property management systems (PMS) are old, antiquated, and haven’t seen much innovation over the last 20 years. This is because they are one of the stickiest solutions a hotel can have. Switching costs are high due to licensing, hardware and training. This is all about to change though. Here is why:Licensing prices will come down to earth as the market becomes more competitive and Software as a Service (SaaS) will become more acceptable.PCs will continue to disappear since the next generation PMS will run off tablets or even smartphones. Welcome to the “post-PC world,” as Steve Jobs would say.As consumerized enterprise software becomes more prevalent, the PMS will become as intuitive as the iPhone. Training costs will take a deep dive if not disappear at all. Gesture, touch and voice will replace the keyboard and mouse.ATRIO by PAR Springer-Miller, InnRoad, and RoomKey are some of the companies leading the way. It’s only a matter of time before others jump in.

This article discusses the future of PMS systems as the author sees them. It is hard to think that properties would be able to switch PMS systems so easily due to many years of data being stored on the system. Companies like Marriott and Hilton have massive PMS systems that would have to be transferred. While I could see these systems moving to the tablet systems, it would take quite a bit of work to do so. Training would still be ab issue as well, but the updated systems would make it a quicker training process.

This article investigates the adoption of cloud computing in the hospitality industry across the world. While identifying the benefits and challenges of this system, the findings suggest that cloud computing is utilized in hotel groups today, more often than not. The article is not an opinion piece but rather an investigation searching for evidence to support the theory that cloud computing is growing in the hospitality industry. It bases its arguments from the observances that in order to operate a hotel group on todays scale, you have to be willing to fall in line with the trends of today- technology + convenience. It also is described how operating systems that streamline property management in terms of reservations, billing, ticketing, etc aren't exactly inventions of right now, but have been developed and corrected more and more as time has gone on and necessity has demanded of them. Four hotel groups, across 2-3 regions were involved in the study where participants were all senior IT directors and managers, across hotels with varying levels of rooms. What they ultimately found was that majority of the information systems used by these hotel groups were based on the cloud system. When the benefits and challenges were surveyed, it was found that the most common reason groups were utilizing this system was relieving the site from not having certain hardware to perform certain functions, and transferring security related risks to the system suppliers instead of the hotel. However, challenges noted was that operating expenses increased, the on site IT leaders don't have access to the environment the hardware lives in, and information security concerns. Working with a cloud computing system daily, I thoroughly understand and appreciate the benefits of having one streamlined services for guest logistics. It creates multiple levels of ease for all aspects of the organization as well as the wider hotel group. For operations that span across the globe, there probably i
