This multimedia presentation of middle eastern history from ancient times to the modern day is organized around different halls that students can enter and explore.

The Comic Creator invites students to compose their own comic strips for a variety of contexts. The organizers focus on the key elements of comic strips by allowing students to choose backgrounds, characters, and props, as well as to compose related dialogue.

In the 1950s and 1960s planners in Harrisonburg, VA implemented a federally sponsored slum clearance and urban renewal program. Seeking to compare this redevelopment effort with the urban renewal efforts in other major cities, students in James Madison University's US Urban Social History Course have begun digitizing relevant primary documents. These files are drawn from Harrisonburg's City Council minutes as well as records located at the Department of Planning and Community Development, the Harrisonburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and in local planner Robert Sullivan's personal collection. The files are organized by the location where the originals are currently located. Indices and summaries of relevant Daily New Record articles will be added shortly. There are a couple of pages on this site which might be useful for history teachers in challenging us to reflect on our practice. I don't know about you, but too often I get so caught up in the bureaucratic paperwork and day-to-day of teaching I forget to reflect on the big picture of what teaching history is all about...

The Digital Military Newspaper Library is a pilot project to house, organize and preserve contemporary and historic military newspapers and periodicals. These newspapers represent Naval and Air Force bases from many geographical regions around the state of Florida and will include Kennedy Space Center, a submarine base at King's Bay Georgia, the Panama Canal Zone, and two newspapers in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

"In the 3¼ centuries between 1492 and about 1820, four enslaved Africans left the Old World for every European. During those years, Africans comprised the largest forced oceanic migration in the history of the world. Who were they? Who organized the slaving voyages? Which parts of Africa did they come from? How did they reach the Americas? And where exactly did they go?"

While to get the full version you must buy the curriculum for any given topic (which I will say I have found to be VERY worth the money they charge if you are interested in purchasing), for any given curriculum set, when you select it, on the right side you will see a box that says "supplemental materials". This is a link that gives you access to graphic organizers, video clips by historians, etc all good stuff you can use in your lessons!

Awesome visualizations of current events

This looks like a gold mine for teachers.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Pentagon Memorial Fund, and the Flight 93 National Memorial offer a free online conference, September 11: Teaching Contemporary History, for K-12 teachers. Designed to provide educators with resources and strategies for discussing the September 11 attacks at the 10th anniversary, the conference will include roundtable discussions with content experts and six workshop sessions. These sessions and the conference website highlight resources available at each organization, provide background information on September 11, and encourage conversations on how to document, preserve, and interpret recent history and current events.

The Institute has developed an array of programs for schools, teachers, and students that now operate in all fifty states, including a website that features more than 60,000 unique historical documents in the Gilder Lehrman Collection.
