Welcome to European History Primary Sources (EHPS), an index of scholarly websites that offer online access to digitised primary sources on the history of Europe. The websites listed on EHPS are not only meta-sources but also include invented archives and born digital sources. Each website that is listed in EHPS has a short description and is categorised according to country, language, period, subject and type of source. The portal can be searched in a variety of ways. The listed websites can be accessed for free, though sometimes a registration is required. EHPS is a work in progress and new content is regularly added. In order to stay updated on new entries or specific categories in which you are interested it is possible to subscribe to RSS feeds or to follow EHPS on Twitter.

"This is the website of a major research project funded by the British Arts & Humanities Research Council dealing with concentration camps in Nazi Germany in the pre-war period. The website has a special section with primary sources: "The absence of accessible documentary material has contributed greatly to the widespread lack of knowledge about the pre-war Nazi concentration camps. Key documents are scattered across archives throughout the world, while most published survivors' memoirs have long been forgotten or gone out of print. This website brings together a selection of documents about the pre-war camps, drawn from various archives and libraries. These sources shed light on the SS camps between 1933 and 1939. Documents have been divided into six sections, each focusing on a different aspect of the SS camps, from their emergence (1) and later consolidation (2) under a professional corps of SS men (3), to the conditions inside the camps (4) for different inmate groups (5), as well as the public face of the camps (6). All the documents - as well as several hundred others - appear in: Christian Goeschel and Nikolaus Wachsmann (eds), Before the Holocaust: Documents from the Nazi Camps, 1933-1939 (Lincoln, NE: Nebraska University Press, forthcoming) All documents are translated into English (translation: Ewald Osers). "Like all wars, the American Civil War had its share of abnormal, freak and uncanny occurrences. What follows are some of the more fascinating ones. Selection criteria: I limited this list to the better-known ones that are citied and verified in multiple places. I've listed the sources for some of the events. Note: Forget about the much-ballyhooed list of Lincoln/Kennedy coincidences, because some of those so-called coincidences are utterly bogus. Not all are, though, but you can force coincidences to apply to almost anyone and any situation."

"The details surrounding the emergence and evolution of religion have not been clearly established and remain a source of much debate among scholars. Now, an article published by Cell Press in the journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences on February 8 brings a new understanding to this long-standing discussion by exploring the fascinating link between morality and religion."

"Wordsworth changed forever the way we view the natural world and the inner world of feeling. He also connected the two indivisibly. We are his heirs, and we see and feel through him. His vision illumined our landscape. His name is inextricably connected with the Lake District, where he was born in Cockermouth in 1770. His mother died when he was only eight, his father five years later. These early losses gave him an acute apprehension of mortality, but did not impair the flow of his affections. His mother had loved him enough, and her love lasted beyond the grave. He had a free and happy country childhood, and joy is one of his themes: through his vocation as a poet he transformed fear of mortality to intimations of immortality. The story of his early life - his schooldays, his education at Cambridge, his wanderings in France, his response to the French revolution, his love of his sister Dorothy and his passionate friendship with Coleridge - are told in his great autobiographical work in blank verse, The Prelude, most of which written when he was in his 30s (only sections of it were published in his lifetime.) It is a work of astonishing originality, both in its subject matter (childhood and the growth of the mind, described with a pre-Freudian insight unprecedented in literature) and in its form. The verse is powerful, supple, subtle, freely flowing. Wordsworth revered both Shakespeare and Milton. His is the third great iambic voice in the English language. His first volume of poems, Lyrical Ballads, written in collaboration with Coleridge and published in 1798, stakes his territory: the plain, the rustic, the thoughtful, the everyday, the organic: a poetry in which "the passions of men are incorporated with the beautiful and permanent forms of nature". It includes The Idiot Boy, a moving ballad treating its challenging subject (a mother's love for her "idiot" son sent out into the night to fetch the doctor for a sick neighbour) with the deepest respect and

If you've never had a machine fall victim to a computer virus, you may wonder what the fuss is about. But the concern is understandable -- according to Consumer Reports, computer viruses helped contribute to $8.5 billion in consumer losses in 2008 [source: MarketWatch]. Computer viruses are just one kind of online threat, but they're arguably the best known of the bunch."

The website of the British Diplomatic Oral History Programme (BDOHP) makes available online the transcripts of the BDOHP interviews. The original material is conserved at the Churchill Archives Centre in Cambridge. "The BDOHP interviews former diplomats or other officials who have played a significant role in events bearing on international relations. The tendency towards greater openness in government has strengthened in recent years. Interviewees are encouraged by their interviewers to be candid and not to allow their instinctive respect for confidentiality to inhibit a frank description of what it is they have contributed to British diplomacy. They are however assured that what they say will not be published or put into the public domain without their permission or prior FCO clearance.

Além deles, os alemães contam com a atenção de muitos estudantes e professores. Filósofos importantes como Kant, Hegel, Marx, Heidegger, Gadamer e mais recentemente Jurgen Habermas, todos eles se preocuparam com esta questão fundamental: "o que é história?" Dada a força desta tradição, dita continental, a contribuição em língua inglesa para este tipo de reflexão parece ter ficado em segundo plano. "No início dos debates do Fórum Social Mundial, o prefeito de Porto Alegre, José Fogaça (PMDB), anunciou ontem que a Capital ganhará um memorial permanente para abrigar os 10 anos de história do evento, que nasceu em solo gaúcho. Prefeitura e integrantes do Conselho Internacional do Fórum assinaram na tarde de ontem um protocolo para a construção do espaço, que tem validade de um ano. O Executivo doará um terreno e a organização do FSM deve buscar parcerias para viabilizar o memorial, que reunirá registros fotográficos, documentais e audiovisuais. A expectativa é inaugurá-lo no Fórum descentralizado de 2012. O vice-prefeito José Fortunati (PDT) informou que existem cinco terrenos em análise. É mais provável que seja escolhida uma área no Morro Santa Tereza. Existem outros imóveis no bairro Praia de Belas, no Jardim Botânico e na Zona Norte. - A intenção é valorizar Porto Alegre como uma cidade referência do Fórum - explicou Fogaça, que foi aplaudido em duas ocasiões: ao cumprimentar o ex-governador Olívio Dutra e ao citar a organização do Gigantinho para a visita do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva na noite de hoje.
