Education's digital future- Our Stanford sister course - 2 views

  •
Our sister course at Stanford is called "Educations Digital Future". The masters students of EDUC 403x were asked to compile a collection of "white papers" summarizing the major themes of the course. They are linked here and are an interesting comparison to "Transforming Education..". Many of their discussions, hopes and concerns were similar to those voiced in our class. There is

Stanford's Online High School Raises the Bar - NYTimes.com - 1 views

  •
Elite Universities, like Stanford University, are putting their brand and prestige behind online education and offering diplomas to 30 seniors from "Standford Online High School." Harold O. Levy, a former New York City schools chancellor and founder of Kaplan's online master's of education program, believes Stanford's involvement in this sector could be a watershed.
  •
Though it is only 5 years old and Stanford officials are still unsure whether it really compares to a brick and mortar school, the cache of Stanford's name could certainly do a lot to elevate the reputation of online programs. I think it is especially interesting that most students are from remote areas where it is impossible to get a comparable education at a similar private school because of location.

Why Stanford Online High School Matters (and two ways it could matter more) : Education... - 0 views

  •
"Sunday's New York Times story broke the news that Stanford University, one of the world's most prestigious research institutions, is putting its brand squarely behind a full-time, degree-granting online high school program. It's just one more reason to set aside the silly debate about whether online educationcan possibly be effective for high school students."

More info on Stanford online platform - 1 views

  •
This builds on Emily's post from the weekend with s bit more detail on one of standford's alternative online platforms. The venture lab platform is not the standard mooc idea, but sounds like they built in more collaboration and teamwork features. So maybe now moocs can reach a wider audience with non-math / science interests?

Academic Earth | Online Courses | Academic Video Lectures - 1 views

  •
New delivery platform, but from what I can tell, same lecture format. "Disruptive" in that it offers students (who might not otherwise be students) a chance to sit in and learn the same content as the rich/smart enough to have a seat at MIT, Yale Stanford, etc.

I think this is a really important experiment. Venturelab is a MOOC that is using a teams based model. Participants fill out assessments which are used to "build" teams. Team members rate each other's work. Interesting to see how they progress.
